Paint Questions

Here is a quick guide of how to use Angelus paint properly on multiple surfaces. The painting process is usually the same but the prep or additives may change depending on the material.

Leather - Shoes, Sneakers, Clothing, Furniture, and More

  1. Prep by wiping down leather with leather preparer using our applicators, cotton balls, or a rag.
  2. Wait for leather to dry a few minutes. Wipe down with microfiber towel to remove all lint.
  3. Paint with 3-5 light layers of Angelus Paint. Make sure to leave to dry 15-30 minutes between layers.
  4. Leave to dry for 24-48 hours. Be careful of flying lint or debris getting on the shoe to avoid imperfections. The more time cured the better.
  5. If you want to add extra protection or change the sheen (Flat, Satin, Glossy, Matte) of the shoe use our 4-Coat Clear Coat 1-2 layers on top.

Canvas & Denim - Shoes, Clothing, Actual Art Canvases, and More

  1. Prep by cleaning the surface with a cleaning product like our Angelus Easy Cleaner Kit. It is necessary to get all the oils and dirt that may be sitting in or on the canvas.
  2. Make sure there is adequate dry time and that you wipe off and get all the cleaner out.
  3. (Optional) If you want to make the paint soak in and not be as rubbery textured on canvas we suggest using our product 2-Soft mixed with our paint. You can paint Angelus paint directly on canvas without it but it just will feel more like a screen print then part of the shoe.
  4. Paint with 3-5 light layers of Angelus Paint. Make sure to leave to dry 15-30 minutes between layers.
  5. Leave to dry.
  6. (Optional) No added protection is really needed as the paint has soaked into the canvas. If you want to change the sheen to a matte or glossy look instead we do suggest our 4-Coat Clear Coat

Patent Leather - Plastic or Vinyl Shoes, Heels, Clothes, Furniture, and More

(Airbrush Suggested instead of Paint Brush)

  1. Prep by wiping down leather with leather preparer using our applicators, cotton balls, or a rag.
  2. For better adhesion we suggest sanding down with Angelus high grit (800,1500) to give the paint somewhere to stick better. Patent leather is extremely smooth plastic and it needs to be properly prepped.
  3. Wipe down lightly with leather preparer again with a microfiber of some kind to remove all the lint and debris from sanding. Be very thorough as shiny patent will show any imperfections.
  4. (Optional)Use an adhesion promoter made for vinyl/plastic. This will help the pores of the material absorb the paint better. Usually sanding will be plenty but if you want to go over the top for adhesion we suggest it. A popular one we do not sell on our site is BullDog Adhesion Promoter. Make sure to not mix up with Adhesive as you will accidentally spray glue on your item.
  5. Paint with 3-5 light layers of Angelus Paint. Make sure to leave to dry 15-30 minutes between layers.
  6. (Optional)If you are doing a very glossy patent leather we would highly suggest air brushing instead of paint brushing. Paint brushing is difficult to get completely smooth on an extremely glossy patent like finish. If only a paint brush is available a heat gun can help level the layers. Just be careful to not burn the paint or shoe.
  7. Use Angelus 4-Coat High Gloss to bring the glossiness back to a patent shine with a few layers.
  8. Leave to dry and somewhere where lint or floating debris will not hit during the drying process.

Angelus Paint can be used on any leather surface, as well as many other surfaces as long as they are prepped properly. Some of these other surfaces include: Canvas, Fabrics, Mesh, & more!

Angelus Paint is not recommended for use on the very bottoms of shoes as the paint will wear away as soon as you start walking in them. Angelus Paint also works great on certain Soft Midsoles (Jordan 3's, Jordan 4's), and will not hold up on hard midsoles (Converse, Vans, Jordan 1's, Air Force 1's, etc). We want you to have the best experience possible with realistic goals.

Angelus Paints utilize a flexible, self leveling, non-cracking formula that adheres to multiple surfaces such as leather, vinyl, patent leather, canvas and more when prepared properly.

Angelus Paints can be used on any type of shoe or leather item from shoes, sneakers, boots, sofas, couches, denim, canvas, and more. With the proper preparation it can adhere to any surface.

We offer high quality Angelus Paint Brushes that can be found here. Any other high quality synthetic brushes made for acrylic paints will also work great.

Yes, all of our paints are formulated to be mixed very easily. This gives you full control to create thousands of color varieties on your own.

Recommended items include: Mixing Jars & Eye Droppers

To prevent brush strokes make sure to use a clean quality paintbrush and apply long light coats spreading the applied paint thoroughly along the shoe evenly. A heat gun or blow dryer can be used to actually speed drying and level the paint as well.

How to use Paint in Airbrush

Yes, Angelus Paints will work in an airbrush if the airbrush has a needle over .5mm. No thinning is necessary as long as it is the proper size.

If your needle is smaller than 0.5mm (ie 0.35mm or 0.1mm) we recommended mixing our product 2-thin into the paint.

It is also highly recommend to strain your paint mixture before pouring it into your airbrush. Paint that has been sitting out in the air can dry and cause small particles. New paint bottles that are unopened should be able to airbrush right away.

View our Reusable Paint Strainer HERE.

We also have a wide selection of Grex Airbrush Machines and airbrush parts HERE.

If you are looking online for other airbrushes please make sure their nozzle is 0.5mm or larger for best results. Anything smaller may have issues unless it is thinned with our product Angelus 2-Thin.

Although airbrushing may seem like the best choice to many, paint brushing is a very good option in many circumstances such as minimal areas and detail work. Preference would be solely up to you in this case.

In order to thin Angelus Paints you would need to add Angelus 2-Thin. Depending on how thin you want the paint determines how much 2-Thin to add.

To help prevent cracking, ensure the surface has been prepped properly using Angelus Leather Preparer & Deglazer. Aside from proper prep, applying the paint in thin coats will also help to prevent cracking.

Angelus Paint

The paint is naturally abrasion resistant to a point but to protect from extra scuffs and scratches be sure to apply Angelus 4-coat to your work when done.

Please make sure that your layers are fully dry between layers. If not, the tackiness may occur if the layers have not cured. The tacky feel should go away over time. On FAUX leather surfaces, it tends to stay longer. We recommend a very light sanding with a 1000+ grit. This will not compromise the texture or paint on your project.

In order to dull down paint you need to add Angelus Duller to the paint. Only 5-10% of duller is needed and recommended.

Once done with painting you can also add scuff protection and change the sheen using Angelus 4-Coat.

In order to obtain a glossy effect while adding protection on project you can apply Angelus 4-Coat High Gloss. Apply 2-3 light coats when project is completely dry.

To achieve glow in the dark paint you would mix glow in the dark pigment (we do not carry this product) with Angelus Neutral paint. Once mixed thoroughly apply to prepared surface.

Although Angelus paint can be applied to soles of shoes, it is not guaranteed to hold up. We do make a product Angelus Walk On that is made for hard leather soled heels and shoes. It will not work on rubber soles though.

How to use 2-soft

In order to paint sock liner or any mesh/nylon areas we recommend mixing Angelus paints with Angelus 2-Soft. Mixing Angelus Paint with 2-Soft in a 1:1 ratio will give the best results. The fabric/mesh will need to be heat-set after the paint has dried in order to keep the material nice and soft.

In order to paint/dye laces you need a fabric medium, like our 2-Soft, mixed with Angelus Paints with a 1:1 ratio. Be sure to heat dry the laces after applying the mix.

The difference between "flat" paints and regular is quite simple, regular paints provide a gloss like finish where Flat paints are matte and have no shine.

Prep Questions

How to Prep Leather

STEP 1

Ensure the leather surface is clean and dry to the touch.

STEP 2

Apply a small amount of Angelus Leather Preparer & Deglazer onto a rag, sponge, applicator pads, cotton balls, or Q-tips.

STEP 3

Wipe down the desired area and allow the product to completely dry. This will remove the factory paint/finish, leaving a clean surface that Angelus Paint will best adhere to.

How to Prep Patent Leather

STEP 1

In order to prepare patent leather you will need high grade sandpaper and adhesion promoter. Lightly sand down the patent with the sand paper.

STEP 2

After giving it an even sand, wipe down the areas using Angelus Leather Preparer & Deglazer.

STEP 3

Once dry, apply two to three even coats of adhesion promoter allowing the shoes to dry between coats.

STEP 1

In order to prepare vinyl you will need high grade sandpaper and adhesion promoter. Lightly sand down the vinyl with the sand paper.

STEP 2

After giving it an even sand, wipe down the areas using Angelus Leather Preparer & Deglazer.

STEP 3

Once dry, apply two to three even coats of adhesion promoter allowing the shoes to dry between coats.

How to Prep Foamposite

STEP 1

In order to prepare Nike Foamposites you will need high grade sandpaper and adhesion promoter. Lightly sand down the surface with the sand paper.

STEP 2

After giving it an even sand, wipe down the areas using Angelus Leather Preparer & Deglazer.

STEP 3

Once dry, apply two to three even coats of adhesion promoter allowing the shoes to dry between coats.

When working on suede or nubuck, leather preparer is not needed nor recommended.

Simply ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from debris.

Adhesion Promoter is a product (usually aerosol) that is used to help paint adhere to non leather surfaces such as rubber, plastics and more.

Although Leather Preparer and Acetone can both be used for the same purpose, Acetone has much stronger chemicals that can harm or burn leather due.

Leather Preparer is a safer alternative that will not harm leather when applied correctly.

If you plan on using Acetone be very careful to not let it soak too much. Acetone can eat into some materials if you do not pay enough attention.

Cleaner Questions

How to use FoamTex

STEP 1

When cleaning suede, we highly recommend using our Angelus Foam-Tex Cleaning Kit. Begin by using the provided brush to gently brush away any dirt or debris.

STEP 2

Depress the pump handle to apply Angelus Foam-Tex directly onto the suede. Apply enough product until almost the entire surface is covered.

STEP 3

Use the provided brush to work the Angelus Foam-Tex in circular motions using a minimum amount of force. Work quickly to prevent the product from dissipating.

STEP 4

Wipe off the excess product using the provided microfiber towel. Continue to dry the rest of the suede as much as possible. Leave to dry for at least 24 hours.

STEP 5

After the suede has completely dried for at least 24 hours, the nap of the suede may be laying down and or feel slightly stiff. Using the same brush, brush the suede in a back and forth motion to loosen and raise the nap. If the nap of the suede is very long and stiff, you may receive better results loosening the nap using our Nubuck & Suede Set.

When cleaning leather with Angelus Easy Cleaner, apply cleaner to brush and begin to scrub dirty area. When done wipe off excess soap with a clean towel and repeat if more cleaning is needed.

All Purpose Foam cleaner would be the strongest cleaner we carry. It is perfect for midsoles and soles of sneakers and tough to clean areas. We do not suggest it on very gentle suedes.

Easy Cleaner

The best way to use Angelus Easy Cleaner is to have a cup of warm cleaner water, a cleaning brush and a clean rag with you. Apply Angelus Easy Cleaner to the brush and start scrubbing. Using a warm clean water, clean off the brush in between sessions. After that dry the shoe off with a clean rag or microfiber.

All Purpose Foam Cleaner

The best way to use Angelus All Purpose Foam Cleaner is to spray directly onto dirty midsole, sole or dirty area and allow the foam to penetrate into the dirt on shoe. Then with the bristle brush cap or any stiff brush begin to scrub the area to loosen dirt. With rag wipe of all excess foam and dirt.

Yes after you have applied the cleaner you wipe it off to remove soap and dirt.

It is always best to test the cleaner on a inconspicuous area just to make sure it reacts well to the material. Especially true on nappy suede as the dye tends to be weak on them.

When soles have turned yellow it is due to oxidation that occurs through time. The product used to reverse this problem is Sole Bright.

This works on most soles and clear soles that have yellowed over time.

How to use Sole Bright

  1. Apply a light/medium coat of Sole Bright to Oxidized parts of shoes to be treated.
  2. Make sure to apply very lightly around edges to avoid the product from running onto unwanted areas. Avoid contact with non-rubber materials as it may burn them.
  3. Cover in clear wrap to prevent the product from evaporating.
  4. Leave in sun for a 1-6 hours (1 hr for midsoles, 4-6 hours for clear/icy soles). Check back periodically.
  5. Multiple sessions are necessary for clear/icy soles and older shoes.

TIPS:

  1. Try to place shoe as level as possible to avoid run-off onto unwanted areas.
  2. Multiple sessions will be necessary for extremely yellowed soles/material.
  3. Sole separation may occur in extremely hot weather. We suggest stuffing the shoe with a sandwich bag filled with ice to avoid separation.
  4. Don't be fooled by other products that say you can get a sole clear in one session that is heavily yellowed.

To use the Suede & Nubuck kit you use the Suede Eraser and you rub on any stained areas on the suede then use the brush to remove any eraser debris.

Water and Stain Repellant

By spraying 2 light coats of Water & Stain Repellent on the product you wish to have protected and allowing it to fully dry you add a water proof sealent.

Water and Stain Repellant Pump

Water & Stain Repellent will last one to two weeks of normal wear before you have to reapply the product.

Dye Questions

How to use Angelus Dyes properly and some minor issues and how to solve them.

Before Starting Any Dyeing Project

Dye takes on the color that is below it. It soaks into the item unlike paint that grabs to the surface and changes the color fully. So if you dye something white with a red dye it will turn pink. Our dyes are formulated to work on a brown leather to turn it red not white. Please keep this in mind when dealing with dyes.

We suggest wearing gloves and using in an area you do not mind getting stained.

Dyeing Smooth Leather with Angelus Leather Dye

  1. Prep by wiping down leather with leather preparer using our applicators, cotton balls, or a rag.
  2. Wait for leather to dry a few minutes. Wipe down with microfiber towel to remove all lint.
  3. Using Wool Daubers (One is supplied with each dye) soak the dye on the dauber.
  4. Be careful of what you are dyeing. If you are dyeing a large spot use the dauber fully soaked. If you are doing a smaller section a paint brush or much less dye on the dauber may be required.
  5. Make sure to soak the article you are dyeing. Dye works by soaking into the item you are dyeing. It does not act like paint. Feel free to soak and evenly rub across to make sure all is even.
  6. Leave to dry. You may see a tint, bronzing, or any different finish. Do not panic! This is just residual dye on the surface.
  7. (Optional) Wipe with a microfiber towel to remove excess dye pigment. If there is still a sheen or tint use some alcohol on said microfiber and wipe down quickly. Do not let the alcohol sit on the item or else you risk lifting some of the dye and discoloring. Once done the tint should disappear and it will just be the color.
  8. If you wish to dye the item more of the color complete steps 5-7 again.
  9. If you are looking to protect and nourish the leather we suggest using Angelus Leather Balm or Neutral Angelus Shoe Polish. If you do not want the shine of the shoe polish just lightly buff versus a full buff to shine. If you dyed the article a black or brown we would suggest even buffing with a colored shoe polish or Lustre Cream

Dyeing Suede Leather with Angelus Suede Dye

  1. Prep by cleaning the surface with a cleaning product like our Angelus Easy Cleaner Kit. It is necessary to get all the oils and dirt that may be sitting in or on the canvas.
  2. Make sure there is adequate dry time and that you wipe off and get all the cleaner out.
  6. Leave to dry for a few hours.
  7. Using our Suede Kit brush or a strong bristled brush, break up the suede to bring to bring it back to its natural feel. Be careful to not let residual dye get on other parts while brushing excess off. This will help the suede feel original again as well as remove excess dye to not run in case of getting wet.
  8. (Optional)We highly recommend spraying down with our Water Repellent or Mink Oil Aerosol

Dyeing Patent Leather with Angelus Leather Dye

You may want to pull on the dauber to see if any loose strands come off to avoid getting into the patent.
  9. Since patent leather is effectively plastic you do not need to protect it as the dye has soaked into it. It may be a good idea to buff with a Neutral Shoe Polish to get a high shine.

Leather dyes have a lot of pigment and are really strong. Suede Dyes are lighter in pigment and use a slightly different formula to keep the suede soft. If you use Leather dye on Suede it will make the nap of the leather harder.

Leather Dye on suede will cause it to get stiff. If you do Suede Dye on Leather dye it may not be strong enough or full of enough pigment for you.

Black Suede can have issues from a few things. If you apply too much it can cause an iridescent look. If you do not shake the bottle it will not be mixed and give a hue. The actual article may not be real suede.

To alleviate most of these situations you just have to wipe down with cloth of water & alcohol.

Dyes takes the color of what is under them. So if you dye something white with red it will turn pink. It mixes with it. Paint sits on the surface and grabs on. You can cover anything with paint. Our paint is water based while our dyes are alcohol based.

Dye Mixing

Yes you can mix dyes to make other colors but that can have adverse results. A normal color mixing like with paint can be very strange with dyes.

No we do not have a white dye. Usually to "dye" something white you would need to bleach it.

Suede Dye

This is a matter of preference but we like with a wool dauber, paint brush or airbrush. The paintbrush will be ruined after application though.

To prevent the dye from bleeding you can brush the article after it has dried and then use Angelus Water & Stain Repellent on top to seal it in. Some people even mix our acrylic finisher with water and airbrush it over to finalize it.

The same way you prevent it from bleeding. You would brush it to get excess pigment off then seal with Angelus Shoe Polish or Water & Stain Repellent.

Acrylic Finisher & 4-Coat Questions

Angelus Acrylic Finisher is intended for changing the sheen while applying mild scuff protection. Originally it was used for holsters and dipping leather items to give a final sheen to the article.

Angelus 4-COAT is a urethane based clear coat that is made for more scuff protection and for changing the sheen of the article as well.

You should use Angelus 4-Coat if you are looking for a more durable scuff resistant clear coat for your articles.

Shop Acrylic Finisher: https://angelusdirect.com/collections/acrylic-finisher
Shop 4-Coat: https://angelusdirect.com/collections/4-coat

4-COAT is the industries best scratch resistant urethane clear coat. With its ultra high durability & flexibility, this protective top coat will help protect almost any project.

It is available in 4 different sheens: Flat, Matte, Satin, & High Gloss

Shop 4-Coat: https://angelusdirect.com/collections/4-coat

4-Coat Samples

Acrylic Finisher is a clear top coat that can help protect the paint from minor scuffs and scratches. Using Acrylic Finisher is also a great way to add a nice sheen to your project. We carry 4 different Acrylic Finisher's which all offer a different amount of shine.

Shop Acrylic Finisher: https://angelusdirect.com/collections/acrylic-finisher

Acrylic Finisher is used after your project is completed and you wish to change the sheen of the project. Using the Acrylic Finisher is totally optional and is dependent upon personal preference. It is a mild scuff protectant. If looking for more protection please us Angelus 4-Coat.

The dulling agent at the bottom can solidify when sitting on the Matte Acrylic Finisher so make sure to shake the bottle before using each time.

In order to dull down a finisher a bit you can add Duller to the mix. 5% of duller is recommended amount to mix.

Acrylic Finisher works as a added layer of durability to prevent scratching not cracking. Keep in mind, if prep work wasn't done correctly you are risking paint cracking and chipping. Always make sure to overdo prep of your items so that the products adhere properly.

Yes, Acrylic finisher is a scuff protectant but it is intended more for changing the sheen of leather articles. The more layers added the more layers of protection.

If you are looking for a stronger scuff protectant we suggest Angelus 4-Coat.

Yes, Acrylic Finisher and 4-Coat dries on as a clear coat.

Yes all 4-Coat sheens have been specially formulated to work in an airbrush. It will actually even heighten the gloss on the high gloss if applied by air brush.

Additive Questions

Here is a quick cheat sheet for all the Angelus Paint Additives:

Duller - Is for dulling the paint to make it appear more flat or matte

2-Thin - For thinning the paints if you need them thinner for an airbrush or another thinned out application.

2-Hard - For hardening the paint for projects that do not bend or flex. Usually we suggest this for non moving parts like glass or plastics. This changes the flexibility of our paint to make it more ridged and scuff protectant.

2-Soft - For making the paint more launderable and soft. This is great if you are doing sock liners, laces, or any other canvas, denim, or porous materials. Make sure to heat set with a heat gun to make the paint not stay liquid.

Angelus Duller is mixed with Angelus Paint in order to reduce the amount of shine in the paint. Perfect item if you want the "Matte" or "Flat" look. We recommend mixing no more than 5-8% duller into your paint solution.

Be careful as if you mix too much duller it was cause the paint to not perform and have issues. Always be cautious with mixing less and adding a little more if you need it do be more dull.

You can also use our Flat or Matte Angelus 4-Coat to get a dull sheen with a finish at the end of your project.

2-Thin is perfect when you need to thin out our Angelus Leather Acrylic Paint. It keeps your shoe paint from getting a rubberized feeling on a mesh surface, and it's great for thinning the paint for airbrush use on your customizations. For airbrush applications, we suggest using a 1 part 2-thin to 4 parts paint ratio (1:4).

Our Reusable Paint Strainers work great to remove all imperfections in the paint.

Do you need to paint plastic or other hard surfaces? Then Angelus 2-Hard is the perfect item for you! When mixed with Angelus Acrylic Paints, this product will allow the paint to adhere to non-porous surfaces such as plastic or glass. Angelus 2-Hard promotes adhesion and film hardness.

Directions:

Mix with Angelus Acrylic Paints: 50% 2-Hard for flexible surfaces, 75% 2-Hard for rigid surfaces.

Apply multiple thin coats until you obtain full and even coverage.

Allow to dry for 48 hours.

An absolute must-have when working on fabrics such as the sock-liner of shoes and other soft fabrics. When heat-set properly, this Fabric Medium will help keep your fabrics nice and soft after being painted.

Directions:

Mix Angelus 2-Soft with Angelus Acrylic Paints in a 1:1 ratio.

Apply multiple coats until you obtain full and even coverage.

Allow paint to completely dry.

Heat-set using a heat gun at 300º F for 3-5 minutes (this step is REQUIRED)

Glitterlites Questions

Angelus Glitterlites may require mixing by hand in order to introduce the glitter that has settled to the bottom. Stir the product until the glitter is introduced evenly throughout the bottle.

Check out our tutorial video below:

No finisher is required on top of Angelus Glitterlites. Glitterlites Paint is flexible and does not flake. Applying an Acrylic Finisher on top of the Glitterlites Paint may hinder the "glitter" look.

You can in order to thin out the glitter to give less of distribution of the glitter. We do not recommend using Angelus Glitterlites through an airbrush as the pigment is too thick and may cause immediate clogging.

Yes, Glitterlites can be mixed. Many of our customers mix Angelus Glitterlites to obtain a desired custom color. Mixing White Sugar Glitterlite with other Glitterlites gives it a very formal/wedding feel.

You can mix Glitterlites with Angelus Paint but be warned it may hinder some of the glitter effect. If you cover the glitter with paint it will not be able to shimmer through.

Rit Dyemore Dye

To prep, soak cotton canvas in cold water and soap, rinse and leave damp.

Treated canvas can be difficult to dye, especially those treated with wax to be made waterproof – make sure to read care instructions. If it says cold water or dry clean only, we don’t recommend dyeing.

To prep, thoroughly clean with leather prep

Use hottest tap water possible, if tap doesn’t get hot enough add water from stovetop at roughly 140F

Use leather conditioner after dyeing as salt in dye can dry it out.

Keep in mind this will make the leather a soft vintage look and Angelus Leather Dye is still recommended for a very deep color on leather or suedes.

To create dyebath, fill stainless steel pot with 3 gallons of water and heat to 170F. Don’t add shoes directly into boiling water as the heat might alter the shoe’s integrity

Wearing protective gloves, carefully add hot water from the stovetop into a plastic container for dyeing. Make sure container is large enough for both shoes. Add well-shaken DyeMore into dyebath.

If dyeing one shoe after another, create another dyebath with the same dye measurements. Utilizing the same dyebath for the second shoe will result in a less saturated dyebath because the first shoe will absorb most of the pigment.

Add shoes into dyebath and stir occasionally for 10 minutes or until desired color is achieved.

If adhesive becomes loose during the dyeing process, simply place parts back and clamp together or weigh it down so that it re-adheres as it dries

Prewash fabric in warm, soapy water to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption

To create dyebath, fill stainless steel pot with 3 gallons of water and heat to just below boiling or 180F.

Wearing protective gloves, add ½ bottle of well-shaken DyeMore into pot per 1 lb of dry fabric (double for 100% polyester) and mix well with tongs.

Add fabric into dyebath and stir occasionally for 10-30 minutes or until desired color is achieved

Angelus Leather and Suede dye are usually used for applying directly to leather and suedes. Generally on materials like canvas, denim, or anything permeable we advise against unless you are able to do a very thorough washing to get all the pigment out.

A lot of customers love to use our dyes in water or alcohol for dip dyes but our dye is extremely strong pigmented load wise so it can be very aggressive. Some people even use our dyes for applying directly to soles to stain the colors on.

Rit Dye tends to be a good option when you want to dip dye something completely all the same color tint. When utilizing with their instructions properly you will get a very nice even finish on everything. Great for items like jackets, bed sheets, pair of shoes, or even soaking a big piece of furniture. It can be more forgiving due to the pigment load not being as high and being a water based product that can evenly disperse in water easier. A lot of customers love it for the vintage look it can put on a shoe that is light in color with just a bottle or two.

Rit All-Purpose Dye

This dye is for natural fabrics, such as cotton, linen, wool, silk and ramie. It also dyes rayon and nylon. If the garment you want to dye contains more than 35% synthetic material (such as polyester, acrylic or acetate), then you must use Rit Dyemore instead.

  1. To determine how much dye is needed, weigh the item to be dyed on a food scale or estimate the weight. As a general guideline, one liquid bottle / two powder packages dyes 2 pounds of dry fabric. If you are trying to achieve a very bold color, then double the dye quantity.
  2. Fiber content and weight affect how color appears. If you are in doubt as to whether your fabric will accept dye or achieve the color you want, we recommend testing a swatch first.
  3. Before dyeing, remove any visible stains on the garment. This will help achieve uniform color results when dyeing. Pre-wash item in warm, soapy water without any fabric softener. This helps to remove any finishes that may interfere with dye absorption.
  4. Cover work area with plastic table cover and have paper towels handy to protect against any possible spills.
  5. Wear rubber gloves to protect hands from getting stained and to insulate them when working with hot water.
  6. Fill a plastic container or stainless steel sink with enough water for the fabric to move freely. We recommend using 3 gallons of water for every pound of fabric. The water should ideally be 140°F . If tap water is not hot enough, heat water on the stove and add to the dyebath.
  7. To enhance the color: (1) add 1 cup of salt when dyeing fabrics containing cotton, rayon, ramie or linen; (2) add 1 cup of vinegar when dyeing fabrics containing nylon, silk or wool.
  8. Add 1 teaspoon of dish detergent to help promote level dyeing.
  9. If using powder dye, dissolve thoroughly in 2 cups of very hot water.
  10. Pour dissolved powder dye or well-shaken liquid dye into dyebath and mix well.
  11. Test color by dipping a paper towel into the dyebath. If color is too light, add more dye. If color is too dark, add more water.
  12. Wet the fabric, squeeze out any excess water and add it to the dyebath.
  13. Stir slowly and continuously. The first 10 minutes are the most critical. Stirring helps to ensure an even color with no splotches.
  14. Item can remain in dyebath from 10 minutes up to one hour with stirring. If dyeing a polyester cotton blend, keep the fabric in the dyebath for at least 30 minutes to ensure that the color takes fully. Nylon tends to dye very quickly and much darker than other fibers so the actual time needed in the dyebath is less.
  15. When desired color is achieved, remove from dyebath. Fabric will look darker when wet and will dry lighter.
  16. To enhance the color and reduce color bleeding, use Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative immediately after dyeing and before washing, following these instructions.
  17. Rinse in cool water until rinse water begins to run clear.
  18. Wash in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse and dry.
Here are all the items we suggest having when using Rit All-Purpose Dye:

1. Rit All-Purpose Dye

2. Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative (Recommended)

3. Measuring Cup

4. Large Metal Spoon

5. Plastic Container or Stainless Steel Sink

6. Salt (If Dyeing Cotton, Rayon, Ramie or Linen)

7. Vinegar (If Dyeing Nylon, Silk or Wool)

8. Dishwashing Liquid

Order Questions

Unfortunately we do not accept Pre-Paid Gift Cards. Our system only accepts PayPal and major Credit/Debit Cards that are linked to a valid Billing Address.

Processing means we have received your order and it is in queue to be done. Our processing time is currently about 2-4 business days due to the busy holiday season. Business days meaning Monday through Friday. If you wish to speed up processing time make sure to get Rush processing. Business days may be extended during busy Holiday seasons.

We can ship most normal orders to addresses other than the Billing Address. However, we are unable to ship relatively large orders to an address other than the Billing Address associated with the credit card used. The customers of such orders will be contacted and their order will either be shipped to the Billing Address or the order will be cancelled. For any questions regarding your order, please e-mail us: info@AngelusDirect.com.

Usually when getting a fraud alert it means that billing information entered does not match the cards billing information. If billing is different than the shipping address make sure to select the box on the checkout to change it. Your funds may be put into processing by your bank but we have not received them so they will go back into your account in 1-2 business days. The bank does this as a way to make sure the owner of the card will know something is up in case of a fraud purchase.

Most Pre-Paid Gift Cards do not have a valid Billing Address, therefore they are not accepted on AngelusDirect.com. If you'd like to place an order, please use a valid credit/debit card or PayPal during checkout.

Currently we do not take phone orders. All orders can be placed strictly online. If for some reason there is a problem feel free to call us and we will walk you through it.

To cancel an order it is best to call us during working hours, 7-3:30 PST M-Fri, and get it before we ship it out. An email will work but your order may get shipped out before we can get to it. Especially true if you chose rush processing.

For the safety of our customers and to retain order accuracy, we are unable to make any changes to orders. However, if your order has not yet entered our Shipment process, we can cancel and issue a full refund for the order.

Usually when something like this happens it entirely has to do with the use of an incorrect Billing Address. The Billing Address has to be the Billing Address associated with the card. If you put an incorrect Billing Address, as a fraud protection, it will say pending or processing on your account. We personally do not have your funds as this is a bank measure to stop fraudulent orders. It will go back in a few days. If not contact your bank about the discrepancy.

If you find that there was an error with your order, please e-mail us immediately regarding the issue. We will gladly take care of any errors within 30 days of purchase once we have confirmed the mistake with our records.

We can be reached at: info@AngelusDirect.com

An order confirmation with a copy of your drivers license and credit card may be required before processing an order if our fraudulent system detects something out of order.

This is usually a wrong billing address, a very strange shipping address, or multiple payment attempts with wrong information.

Order confirmations are to protect you and us against fraud.

We know this may be an inconvenience and we appreciate you working with us.

Unfortunately, packages can get delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. Sometimes due to weather, and other times due to package volume at your local USPS hub. Please allow an additional 1-2 business days for your tracking info to update.

Unfortunately Angelus Direct cannot be held responsible for packages that go missing once the tracking info shows that it's been Delivered. We recommend visiting your local Post Office to see if they can locate your package. In our experience, it can sometimes take an additional 2-4 days for packages to find their way to your address even after it states that it's been delivered. If USPS Priority shipping was chosen, feel free to file a claim through USPS regarding a lost or stolen package.

Unfulfilled means that your order has not yet shipped.

Fulfilled means it has been packed and it is on its way out or is already out of our facility. It will have a tracking number associated with it that will update in a few hours after being fulfilled.
