Help with an order

Prep

Get the surface ready so paint and dye stick.

How do I prepare leather for paint?

Wipe the leather clean, let it dry, then rub on Angelus Leather Preparer & Deglazer until the shine is gone. When the surface looks dull and matte, it's ready for paint.

  1. Wipe off dirt with a damp cloth and let the leather dry completely.
  2. Put a little Preparer & Deglazer on an applicator pad, cotton ball, or rag and rub the area you'll paint. This strips the factory finish so paint can bond.
  3. Let it dry. A dull, matte look means it's prepped.

What you'll need

How do I prepare patent leather?

Patent leather has a glossy coating that bends with the shoe, so sand the shine off with 800 to 1500 grit sandpaper and follow with a light pass of Leather Preparer & Deglazer. For extra grip, add a coat of adhesion promoter from an automotive parts store before you paint.

  1. Lightly sand the shiny layer with 800 to 1500 grit wet sandpaper.
  2. Wipe off the dust with a light pass of Preparer & Deglazer on a microfiber towel or cotton ball, then let it dry.
  3. For extra hold, apply an automotive adhesion promoter and let it dry.
  4. Paint in thin coats of Angelus Paint, letting each one dry before the next.

Skip 2-Hard on patent leather. 2-Hard is made for surfaces that don't bend, like glass and metal, and it will crack as the shoe flexes.

What you'll need

How do I prepare vinyl?

Sand vinyl lightly to take off its slick top layer, then give it a light pass of Leather Preparer & Deglazer. For extra grip, add a coat of adhesion promoter from an automotive parts store before you paint.

  1. Scuff the surface with 800 to 1500 grit wet sandpaper.
  2. Wipe away oils and sanding dust with a light pass of Preparer & Deglazer, then let it dry.
  3. For extra hold, apply an automotive adhesion promoter and let it dry.
  4. Paint in thin coats and let each coat dry fully before the next.

Vinyl bends, so don't mix 2-Hard into your paint. 2-Hard is for rigid surfaces and will crack on vinyl.

What you'll need

How do I prepare Nike Foamposites?

Foamposite shells are glossy and flex as you walk, so sand off the gloss, give them a light pass of Leather Preparer & Deglazer, and add an automotive adhesion promoter for extra grip before painting.

  1. Lightly sand the outer shell with 800 to 1500 grit sandpaper to take off the gloss.
  2. Wipe off the residue with a light pass of Preparer & Deglazer and let it dry.
  3. For extra hold, apply an automotive adhesion promoter and let it dry.
  4. Paint in thin coats of Angelus Paint.

Don't use 2-Hard on Foamposites. It's made for surfaces that don't bend and will crack as the shoe flexes.

What you'll need

How do I prepare suede or nubuck?

Clean it with the Angelus Nubuck & Suede Kit first: brush out loose dirt and rub the eraser over scuffs. Then color it with Angelus Suede Dye, which is made for suede, and finish with Water & Stain Repellent once it's dry.

  1. Brush out loose dirt with the brush from the Nubuck & Suede Kit.
  2. Rub the eraser over scuffs and marks. Use the Detail Cleaning Brush for small areas.
  3. Apply Angelus Suede Dye.
  4. Once dry, spray Water & Stain Repellent for a breathable layer of protection.

What you'll need

What is adhesion promoter, and do I need it?

Adhesion promoter is a clear primer that helps paint grip slick surfaces like patent leather, vinyl, and Foamposite shells. Angelus doesn't make one for flexible materials, so pick one up at an automotive parts store and apply it after sanding and a light pass of Leather Preparer & Deglazer.

For hard surfaces that don't bend, like glass, metal, or rigid plastic, mix Angelus 2-Hard into your paint instead. 2-Hard will crack on anything that flexes, so keep it off shoes and other bendable items.

What you'll need

Should I use Leather Preparer or acetone?

Use Angelus Leather Preparer & Deglazer. It's made for prepping leather. Acetone also strips the finish, but it's much stronger and can burn, crack, or damage the leather.

If you use acetone anyway, test a hidden spot first and use only a little. Don't soak the leather.

What you'll need

What is Paintable Repair Filler and how do I use it?

Angelus Paintable Repair Filler fills holes, cracks, and scratches in smooth leather, vinyl, and most sneaker midsoles. It dries flexible, and you paint over it to match the color around it.

  1. Clean the area with Leather Preparer & Deglazer so the filler can bond.
  2. Lightly sand the damaged spot with fine-grit sandpaper.
  3. Press a thin layer of filler into the crack or hole with a spatula and smooth it out.
  4. Let each layer dry for at least an hour. For deep damage, build up several thin layers.
  5. Sand the dry filler smooth, working toward finer grit.
  6. Paint over the repair with Angelus Paint.

Use paint over the filler, not dye. Dye doesn't take well on the filler and won't match the leather around the repair.

What you'll need

Do I need Leather Preparer & Deglazer?

Yes, for smooth, finished leather. It removes the factory finish and oils so paint or dye sticks and doesn't crack, peel, or fade later.

If you don't have it, you have two fallbacks:

  • Wipe on a small amount of acetone or acetone-based nail polish remover. Test a hidden spot first and let it dry fully.
  • Lightly sand the surface with high-grit sandpaper to take off the glossy coating, then wipe away the dust.

What you'll need

Why is my paint cracking in the creases?

Creases usually crack when the area wasn't prepped, the paint went on too thick, or it wasn't worked into the crease. Sand and deglaze the creases, then build the color with thin coats.

  1. Lightly sand the creased areas with fine-grit sandpaper.
  2. Wipe them with Leather Preparer & Deglazer to remove oils.
  3. Paint in the direction of the crease.
  4. Apply several thin coats and let each one dry. Heavy layers lose flexibility.

What you'll need

Can I use vinyl tape to mask the midsoles on suede sneakers?

Yes. Put Angelus Vinyl Tape on the midsole only and keep it off the suede. If the tape might touch the suede, use a low-tack masking tape instead so the adhesive doesn't pull at it.

  1. Clean and dry the midsole.
  2. Apply the tape to the midsole and press the edges down firmly.
  3. Paint, then peel the tape slowly to keep the line sharp.

What you'll need

Paint

Using Angelus Paint on leather, fabric, and more.

What can Angelus Paint be used on?

Angelus Paint is made for leather and also works on canvas, denim, fabric, wood, and soft midsoles like the ones on Jordan 3s and 4s. Mix in 2-Soft for fabric, or 2-Hard for glass, hard plastic, and metal. It won't last on shoe bottoms or hard midsoles like Converse, Vans, Jordan 1s, and Air Force 1s.

What you'll need

How do I use Angelus Paint?

Prep the surface with Leather Preparer & Deglazer, brush on thin coats of Angelus Paint, and let each coat dry 15 to 30 minutes. Let the finished piece dry at least 24 hours, then seal it with 4-Coat or Acrylic Finisher.

  1. Clean the surface and wipe it with Leather Preparer & Deglazer until it looks dull.
  2. Apply a thin, even coat of paint with long, light strokes.
  3. Let it dry 15 to 30 minutes, then add more thin coats until the color is solid.
  4. Let the piece dry at least 24 hours.
  5. Seal it with Angelus 4-Coat for scuff protection, or Acrylic Finisher to set the sheen.

What you'll need

How do I paint leather shoes?

Strip the factory finish with 3 to 5 passes of Angelus Leather Preparer & Deglazer, then brush on 3 to 5 thin coats of Angelus Leather Paint and seal it with 4-Coat. The paint stays flexible once it's dry, so it bends with the shoe instead of cracking.

  1. Clean the shoes with Easy Cleaner and let them dry.
  2. Wipe the areas you'll paint with Leather Preparer & Deglazer, 3 to 5 passes, until the shine is gone.
  3. Tape off anything you don't want painted.
  4. Brush on thin coats, letting each one dry 15 to 30 minutes. Most colors cover in 3 to 5 coats.
  5. Let the shoes dry at least 24 hours.
  6. Seal with 1 to 2 layers of Angelus 4-Coat for scuff protection and the sheen you want.

Angelus Paint is the same professional-grade paint fashion and footwear brands use, and it's the go-to for first-time customizers. Made a mistake? Once it's dry, take it off with Deglazer or paint right over it.

What you'll need

How do I paint canvas shoes?

Clean the canvas with Easy Cleaner, let it dry, and paint 3 to 5 light layers of Angelus Paint. Mix in Angelus 2-Soft if you want the canvas to stay soft instead of feeling like a screen print.

  1. Clean the canvas with Easy Cleaner and let it dry completely.
  2. Optional: mix your paint 1 to 1 with 2-Soft.
  3. Brush on 3 to 5 light layers, letting each one dry.
  4. If you used 2-Soft, heat-set the paint with a heat gun at 300°F for 3 to 5 minutes once it's dry.

Sealing canvas is optional. If you want one, Satin Acrylic Finisher gives an even, store-bought look.

What you'll need

How do I paint denim, jackets, and clothes?

Mix Angelus Paint 1 to 1 with Angelus 2-Soft, paint in thin coats, and heat-set it at 300°F for 3 to 5 minutes once it's dry. 2-Soft keeps denim, hoodies, and shirts soft, and heat setting helps the paint hold up in the wash.

  1. Start with clean, dry fabric.
  2. Mix your paint 1 to 1 with 2-Soft.
  3. Paint in thin coats and let each one dry.
  4. Once it's fully dry, heat-set with a heat gun at 300°F for 3 to 5 minutes, keeping the gun moving.

Fabric soaks up paint, so plan your design before you start. Mistakes are hard to remove from denim and canvas, though you can cover them with a darker color.

What you'll need

How do I paint a leather bag, jacket, or boots?

Same as leather shoes: deglaze until the shine is gone, brush on thin coats of Angelus Leather Paint, and seal with 4-Coat. Keep the coats thin where the leather bends, like straps, elbows, and boot creases.

  1. Clean the leather with Easy Cleaner and let it dry.
  2. Wipe it with Leather Preparer & Deglazer, 3 to 5 passes, until it looks dull.
  3. Paint thin coats and let each one dry before the next.
  4. Let it dry at least 24 hours, then seal with 4-Coat.

A 1 oz. bottle covers a small to medium handbag. For a large bag, purse, or jacket, a 4 oz. bottle is the safer pick.

What you'll need

How do I paint a leather couch, chair, or car seats?

Clean it, deglaze it, and build the color in thin coats with a brush, sponge pad, or airbrush, then seal with 4-Coat. Plan on a pint to a quart of paint for a leather chair and a quart or two for a full couch.

  1. Clean the leather with Easy Cleaner and let it dry.
  2. Wipe it with Leather Preparer & Deglazer until the shine is gone.
  3. Apply thin, even coats with a brush, applicator pad, or airbrush, letting each one dry.
  4. Let it dry at least 24 hours.
  5. Seal with 4-Coat to protect against everyday wear.

Bigger jobs:

  • A quart covers about a medium 3-seat couch or a full car interior of 4 to 5 seats.
  • Fill cracks and holes first with Paintable Repair Filler, then paint over it.

What you'll need

Can I paint glass, plastic, or other hard surfaces?

Yes, if the surface doesn't bend. Mix 3 parts Angelus 2-Hard to 1 part Angelus Paint so it grips glass, hard plastic, and metal, apply thin coats, and give it 48 hours to cure.

  1. Lightly sand the surface and wipe it clean.
  2. Mix 3 parts 2-Hard with 1 part Angelus Paint.
  3. Apply several thin coats until the color is even.
  4. Let it dry 48 hours before using the item.

This works on things like cups, water bottles, flasks, headsets, and other rigid items. Skip 2-Hard on shoes, patent leather, vinyl, or anything that flexes, since it dries hard and will crack.

What you'll need

Can I use Angelus Paint on wood?

Yes. Angelus Paint works on wood, which is why customizers use it on skateboards and guitars. Brush it on in thin coats and let each one dry. Test a small spot first if the wood has a glossy finish.

What you'll need

What should I buy to start customizing?

The Angelus Paint & Prep Starter Kit. You pick 3 paint colors and a 4-Coat finish, and it comes with Easy Cleaner, Leather Preparer & Deglazer, 5 paint brushes, and a cleaning brush, so you have everything for your first pair.

It works on leather shoes, bags, and furniture, plus canvas and denim. The Starter Kit is only sold at Angelus Direct and ships within the U.S. Want more colors? The 12 Color Paint Assortment Kit lets you pick 12.

What you'll need

How do I fix a painting mistake?

On leather, let the paint dry, then wipe it off with Leather Preparer & Deglazer or simply paint over it. You can keep adjusting until you love it.

On canvas and denim, paint soaks in and is hard to remove, so cover the spot with a darker color or work it into your design.

What you'll need

How is Angelus Paint different from other paints?

Angelus Paint is flexible and self-leveling. It moves with leather instead of cracking, and it smooths out brush strokes as it dries.

Once the surface is cleaned and prepped, it bonds to leather, vinyl, patent leather, canvas, and more, which is why customizers use it for shoes, accessories, and clothing.

What you'll need

Which paint should I use for sneakers, furniture, or clothing?

Use Angelus Leather Paint. It works on sneakers, boots, leather sofas, denim, and canvas when the surface is prepped. It's tested most on leather, so test a small spot first on other materials.

For denim, canvas, and other fabrics, mix in Angelus 2-Soft so the paint stays soft and flexible.

What you'll need

What kind of paint brush should I use?

Angelus paint brushes are made for our paint and give smooth, even coverage. Any good synthetic brush made for acrylic paint will also work.

What you'll need

Can Angelus Paint colors be mixed?

Yes. All Angelus Paints blend with each other, so you can mix any custom shade. Mixing jars and eye droppers help you measure and repeat a color.

The Pocket Color Wheel shows which colors to combine for the shade you want.

What you'll need

How do I prevent brush strokes?

Use a clean, quality brush and apply thin, even coats with long, light strokes. Drying each coat with a heat gun or hair dryer on low helps the paint level out smoothly.

  1. Start with a clean brush made for acrylic paint.
  2. Apply thin, even coats instead of one heavy coat.
  3. Use long, light strokes in one direction.
  4. Dry each coat on low heat with a heat gun or hair dryer.

What you'll need

Can I use Angelus Paint in an airbrush?

Yes. With a needle of 0.5 mm or larger, spray it straight from the bottle. With a smaller needle, thin it with Angelus 2-Thin first.

Strain the paint before pouring it into the airbrush to catch any particles. A fresh, unopened bottle can go in without straining.

What you'll need

Should I use an airbrush or a paintbrush?

Either works, so it comes down to the look you want. An airbrush gives smooth, even coverage and blends, and a paintbrush is better for detail work and small areas.

What you'll need

How do I thin Angelus Paint?

Mix 1 part Angelus 2-Thin with 4 parts paint. That's the right consistency for airbrushing.

What you'll need

How do I keep the paint from cracking?

Prep with Leather Preparer & Deglazer so the paint bonds, then apply thin coats. Thin layers flex with the material, and heavy ones crack.

If it's already cracking in the creases, see the Prep section for how to sand and repaint them.

What you'll need

How do I protect my paint from scuffs and scratches?

Seal it with Angelus 4-Coat, our most durable topcoat for scuffs and scratches. Acrylic Finisher mainly sets the sheen, from matte to high gloss, and adds light protection.

What you'll need

Why is my paint tacky or sticky?

Usually because the coats were too thick, the paint hasn't had enough time to dry, or the room is humid. Give it at least 24 hours in a well-ventilated area, and use thin coats going forward.

Other causes and fixes:

  • Heavy coats dry unevenly. Apply thin layers and let each dry fully.
  • Humidity and poor airflow slow drying. A fan, or a heat gun or hair dryer on low, helps.
  • Angelus Paint dries slightly soft. A coat of 4-Coat or Acrylic Finisher gives a smooth, non-tacky surface.
  • Paint on a surface that wasn't prepped with Leather Preparer & Deglazer may not bond and can stay sticky.

What you'll need

How do I make the paint matte?

Mix Angelus Duller into the paint before you apply it, starting small and keeping it to no more than 5 to 8 percent of the mix. To change the sheen after the paint is dry, top it with Matte or Flat 4-Coat.

Test the sheen on a hidden spot first, and add a little more Duller if you want it flatter. Too much Duller can affect how the paint performs.

What you'll need

How do I make the paint glossy?

Once the paint is fully dry, apply 2 to 3 light coats of High Gloss Acrylic Finisher, or High Gloss 4-Coat if you also want the most durable finish.

What you'll need

Do you have glow in the dark paint?

Yes. Angelus Glow in the Dark Paint charges under light and also reacts to black light. Apply several coats over a white base for the brightest glow.

What you'll need

Will Angelus Paint work on the soles of my shoes?

It will go on, but it won't last. Soles take constant friction and impact, so paint wears off quickly even with good prep.

Videos online that show painted soles usually don't show how they look after weeks of wear. For hard leather or wood soles on dress shoes, use Angelus Walk On paint instead.

What you'll need

How do I paint mesh, sockliners, or tongues?

Mix Angelus 2-Soft with your paint 1 to 1 so it stays flexible on fabric. Brush or airbrush it on, let it dry completely, then heat-set it with a heat gun at 300°F for 3 to 5 minutes.

Heat setting is required to activate 2-Soft, so don't skip it. Keep the heat gun moving in sweeping passes so you don't scorch the fabric.

What you'll need

How do I paint laces?

Mix Angelus Paint 1 to 1 with 2-Soft, apply it to the laces, let it dry, then heat-set them with a heat gun at 300°F for 3 to 5 minutes. 2-Soft keeps the laces flexible so the paint doesn't crack.

What you'll need

What's the difference between flat paint and regular paint?

Flat paint dries to a matte finish with no shine. Regular Angelus Paint dries with a slight natural sheen.

You can also make regular paint matte by mixing in Angelus Duller.

What you'll need

How long should I let the paint dry?

Give each coat 15 to 30 minutes before the next, and let the finished piece air-dry at least 24 hours before you wear or use it.

Humidity, cold, and poor airflow all slow drying. Work in a ventilated room at a moderate temperature.

What you'll need

How do I use Angelus Neon Paint?

Put down 1 to 2 coats of a standard Angelus color close to your neon shade first, then build the neon in thin coats. The base coat is what gives neons solid, bright coverage.

  1. Prep the surface the usual way with Leather Preparer & Deglazer.
  2. Apply 1 to 2 coats of a standard Angelus Paint close to your neon color. Don't use a neon, pearlescent, or metallic as the base.
  3. Optional: mix a little of that standard color into the neon for better coverage.
  4. Apply the neon in thin, even coats until the color is solid. An airbrush helps prevent streaks.
  5. Optional: top it with Angelus Neutral Paint to protect the neon finish.

What you'll need

How long does Angelus Paint last?

An opened bottle lasts up to 3 years at room temperature if you keep it sealed. Wipe the neck clean before closing it so the cap seals tight.

Do you have paint matched to specific sneakers or items?

Our Collector Edition paints are matched to colors from popular sneakers. Other paint names may sound like an item's color, but they aren't exact matches.

Send our support team a photo of the color you're after, and they'll help you find the closest shade or a mix that gets you there.

Will Walk On paint work on sneaker soles?

No. Walk On is made for hard, smooth soles like leather heels, solid-soled loafers, and wood soles. Sneaker soles flex and wear too much, so the paint wears off. It comes in red and black.

What you'll need

How much Angelus Paint do I need?

A 1 oz. bottle covers about 2 to 3 pairs of shoes, and a 4 oz. bottle covers 6 to 12 pairs. Coverage depends on the color, the material, and how many coats it takes.

Rough guide by size:

  • 1 oz.: 2 to 3 pairs of shoes, a small to medium handbag, or touch-ups on a whole couch
  • 4 oz.: 6 to 12 pairs of shoes, a large handbag, or a small chair
  • 16 oz. (pint): 20 or more pairs, a recliner, or a large chair
  • 32 oz. (quart): 40 or more pairs, a full car interior of 4 to 5 seats, or a medium 3-seat couch

Some colors need extra coats for full coverage, so it helps to have a little extra on hand.

Where can I find a color chart?

Our color charts are online for every paint and dye. Screens and lighting change how a color looks, so test on your material when an exact match matters.

Online swatches are photographed under neutral lighting.

Can you make a custom paint color?

We don't mix custom colors, but you can blend your own from our full range of Angelus Paint colors. The Pocket Color Wheel shows which colors to combine.

Send our support team a photo of the color you want, and they'll point you to the closest shade or mix.

What you'll need

Should I use a base coat?

Yes for light colors and for metallic, neon, and pearlescent paints. A base coat improves coverage and makes the top color brighter.

Use a shade close to your top color, or cream, white, or grey for the brightest result.

Can I paint hockey pads?

Yes. Clean them well, prep with Leather Preparer & Deglazer, sand lightly, then paint or dye and seal with 4-Coat for a heavy waterproof layer.

  1. Clean off dirt and residue, then wipe with Leather Preparer & Deglazer or acetone.
  2. Lightly sand with fine-grit sandpaper, taking care not to damage the material.
  3. Use Angelus Paint for a color change, or Angelus Dye for deep, lasting color.
  4. Seal with Angelus 4-Coat to protect against moisture and abrasion.

What you'll need

Can I paint metal?

Yes, on rigid metal that doesn't bend. Sand it lightly, mix Angelus 2-Hard into the paint for adhesion, and seal it with an automotive clear coat, epoxy, or an Angelus finisher.

  1. Remove oils, dirt, and rust completely.
  2. Lightly sand to give the paint something to grip.
  3. Mix 2-Hard into your Angelus Paint.
  4. Paint, let it dry, then seal it.

Skip metal parts that bend or move, like belt buckles and clasps. No paint holds up long on metal that flexes. Use protective gear and follow the product safety instructions.

What you'll need

How do I get paint out of canvas or denim?

Once paint soaks into canvas or denim, you usually can't get it all out. Cover the spot with a darker or brighter color in thin layers, or work it into your design.

Do you have color swatches?

Yes. Every color on our site has a swatch, and our support team can send you a photo of the physical swatch if you want a closer look.

Can I paint rubber?

Angelus Paint will stick to rubber at first, but it won't last. Rubber resists paint, so it eventually peels off.

Is Angelus Paint safe for pets?

Angelus Paint is water-based and non-toxic to people once dry, and it's often used on leashes and collars, but it isn't tested or labeled as pet-safe. Keep pets away while it's wet, and let items dry fully before they wear them.

Even non-toxic paint can upset a pet's stomach if it's swallowed wet. Ask your veterinarian if you have concerns.

What's the difference between pearlescent and metallic paint?

Pearlescent paint has a soft, pearl-like shimmer that shifts slightly in the light. Metallic paint has a bolder, reflective shine.

What types of leather does Angelus Paint work on?

Most smooth leathers, as long as you prep them: full-grain, top-grain, corrected-grain, aniline, semi-aniline, calfskin, nappa, and smoothed veg-tan. Patent leather is the trickiest and needs sanding first.

What you'll need

Is Angelus Paint waterproof?

Yes, once it's fully dry. It also makes canvas and denim water-resistant when they're painted and sealed. Add an Angelus finisher for the most protection.

What you'll need

Finishers

Sealing your work with 4-Coat and Acrylic Finisher.

What is Angelus 4-Coat?

Angelus 4-Coat is a scratch-resistant urethane clear coat that protects painted sneakers and leather while staying flexible. It comes in Flat, Matte, Satin, and High Gloss.

How the sheens look:

  • Flat: no shine. It can slightly change how dark base colors look.
  • Matte: a soft, low sheen.
  • Satin: a medium shine.
  • High Gloss: the most shine. It goes on most evenly with an airbrush.

What you'll need

Should I use Acrylic Finisher or 4-Coat?

Use 4-Coat when you need durability, and Acrylic Finisher when you mainly want to change the sheen. If you want both, make 4-Coat your final layer.

  • 4-Coat is urethane-based, with strong scuff, scratch, and water resistance. It comes in Flat, Matte, Satin, and High Gloss, and you brush or airbrush it on.
  • Acrylic Finisher is water-based and flexible, with light protection. It comes in Matte, Satin, Normal, and High Gloss, and you can brush it on or dip leather goods in it.

What you'll need

How many layers of 4-Coat should I use?

One to two layers is right for most projects. Three is the most we recommend.

Apply each layer while the one before is still slightly wet so they blend smoothly, and let the piece dry completely before handling it. For High Gloss, an airbrush gives a streak-free shine.

What you'll need

Can 4-Coat be airbrushed?

Yes, every 4-Coat sheen can be airbrushed. If it's too thick, thin it with up to 10 percent water, and spray light, even coats.

What you'll need

What is Acrylic Finisher?

Angelus Acrylic Finisher is a water-based clear top coat that seals Angelus Paint, sets the sheen, and protects against minor scratches and scrapes. It comes in Matte, Satin, Normal, and High Gloss.

  1. Shake or stir the bottle well.
  2. Brush on thin, even coats over fully dry Angelus Paint, or dip leather goods for an even finish.
  3. Let each coat dry before adding the next.

How the sheens compare: Matte is a lower-sheen semi-gloss, Satin matches a new shoe, Normal is glossy, and High Gloss has the most shine.

What you'll need

When should I use Acrylic Finisher?

Use it when you want to change the sheen of your paint and add light protection. For heavy scuff and scratch resistance, use 4-Coat instead.

What you'll need

How do I make Acrylic Finisher more matte?

Add a little Angelus Duller to Matte Acrylic Finisher, no more than 0.5 oz. of Duller per 4 oz. of finisher. For a true flat look, use Flat 4-Coat instead.

Shake Matte Acrylic Finisher for at least a full minute before using it.

What you'll need

Will Acrylic Finisher stop paint from cracking?

No. Acrylic Finisher sets the sheen and adds light protection, and cracking comes from skipped prep or thick paint, which a topcoat can't fix.

Prep with Leather Preparer & Deglazer and paint in thin, even layers to keep the paint from cracking.

What you'll need

Does Acrylic Finisher protect against scuffs?

It gives light scuff protection. For high-wear areas, 4-Coat gives much stronger scuff and scratch resistance.

Several coats of Acrylic Finisher add more protection than one.

What you'll need

Do Acrylic Finisher and 4-Coat dry clear?

Yes. Both dry clear, so your colors stay true. Flat 4-Coat can slightly change how dark base colors look.

What you'll need

Why does my finisher still feel tacky after drying?

Usually because a coat hasn't fully cured. Let each coat dry completely before the next. On faux leather the tacky feel can last longer, and a light sanding with 1000-grit or finer sandpaper smooths it.

What you'll need

What should I put on after painting?

A topcoat. Use 4-Coat for the most protection against wear, or Acrylic Finisher to set the sheen with lighter protection.

What you'll need

Can I paint over 4-Coat?

No. Paint won't stick to 4-Coat. Remove the 4-Coat with Leather Preparer & Deglazer, repaint, and then reapply 4-Coat.

What you'll need

Additives

Duller, 2-Thin, 2-Hard, 2-Soft, and 2-Thick.

What do the Angelus paint additives do?

Angelus makes five paint additives: Duller for a matte finish, 2-Thin for airbrushing, 2-Hard for rigid surfaces like glass and metal, 2-Soft for fabric, and 2-Thick for texture.

  • Duller cuts the paint's shine.
  • 2-Thin thins paint for airbrushing and other thin applications.
  • 2-Hard hardens paint so it sticks to surfaces that don't bend, like glass, metal, and rigid plastic.
  • 2-Soft keeps paint soft on canvas, denim, and laces. It has to be heat-set.
  • 2-Thick thickens paint for textured effects.

What you'll need

What is Angelus Duller?

Duller is an additive that cuts the shine of Angelus Paint for a flat or matte finish. Mix in no more than 5 to 8 percent and test the sheen before painting.

It also works in Acrylic Finisher for a lower-sheen topcoat. For a matte look with added protection, seal with Flat or Matte 4-Coat instead. Flat Black and Flat White paints already dry with almost no shine.

What you'll need

What is 2-Thin?

2-Thin is a thinner for Angelus Paint. For airbrushing, mix 1 part 2-Thin to 4 parts paint, and for other uses add it a little at a time until the paint flows the way you want.

Not every color needs thinning, since some are naturally thinner. Strain the paint before it goes into an airbrush.

What you'll need

What is 2-Hard Film Hardener?

2-Hard is a hardener and adhesion promoter that lets Angelus Paint stick to hard surfaces that don't bend, like glass, metal, and rigid plastic. Mix 3 parts 2-Hard to 1 part paint.

  1. Lightly sand the surface and wipe it clean.
  2. Mix 3 parts 2-Hard with 1 part Angelus Paint.
  3. Apply several thin coats until the coverage is even.
  4. Let it dry 48 hours before using the item.

Keep 2-Hard off anything that flexes, including shoes, patent leather, and vinyl. It dries hard and will crack as the material bends. On fabric, use 2-Soft, and on leather, use Angelus Paint on its own after deglazing.

What you'll need

What is 2-Soft Fabric Medium?

2-Soft is a fabric medium that keeps painted fabric soft instead of stiff. Mix it 1 to 1 with Angelus Paint, let the paint dry, then heat-set it at 300°F for 3 to 5 minutes.

Heat setting is required to activate 2-Soft. It works on canvas shoes, sock liners, mesh, denim, and other soft fabrics. If the fabric feels a little stiff right after heat-setting, it softens with wear.

What you'll need

What is 2-Thick Paint Thickener?

2-Thick is an additive that thickens acrylic paint so you can build texture and body.

  1. Pour the paint you need into a separate container.
  2. Add a very small amount of 2-Thick and mix well.
  3. Wait 5 to 10 minutes and check the consistency.
  4. Add more slowly if needed. It keeps thickening for a few hours.

What you'll need

Does 2-Soft work with other paint brands?

It's made for Angelus Paint. It may work with other water-based acrylics, but we haven't tested them, so we can't promise results.

What you'll need

Can I use 2-Soft instead of 2-Thin in my airbrush?

No. 2-Soft is a fabric medium, and it won't thin paint the right way for an airbrush or help it stick to leather. If you're out of 2-Thin, use a thinner made for acrylic airbrushing, or contact us for a recommendation.

What you'll need

Dye

Coloring leather and suede with Angelus Dye.

How do I use Angelus Dye?

Prep the surface, apply the dye with a wool dauber or brush, let it dry, and wipe off the excess. Dye soaks in and mixes with the color underneath, so it's best for restoring or deepening a shade.

Smooth leather:

  • Prep with Leather Preparer & Deglazer and let it dry.
  • Apply the dye with a wool dauber or brush and let it dry.
  • Wipe off the excess and repeat if needed.
  • Protect it with Leather Balm or shoe polish.

Suede:

  • Clean it fully with Easy Cleaner, and brush the nap if it's stiff.
  • Apply suede dye with a wool dauber or brush and let it dry a few hours.
  • Brush the suede to bring back its feel. Water & Stain Repellent or Mink Oil can finish it.

Patent leather:

  • Prep with Leather Preparer & Deglazer and let it dry.
  • Apply the dye, let it dry, wipe off the excess, and repeat if needed.
  • Buff with Neutral Shoe Wax for extra shine.

Dye shows through to the base color, so red on white turns pink. Wear gloves and work somewhere a stain won't matter.

What you'll need

What's the difference between leather dye and suede dye?

Leather dye is made for smooth leather and gives rich, deep color. Suede dye has a lower pigment load so suede stays soft and velvety.

What you'll need

What happens if I use leather dye on suede, or suede dye on leather?

Leather dye can make suede stiff and damage its soft texture. Suede dye on smooth leather gives lighter, less vibrant color.

Why is my black suede dye uneven or bronze?

Usually from too much dye or a bottle that wasn't shaken. Wipe the excess off with rubbing alcohol, shake the bottle well, and reapply in thin, even coats.

If the dye won't absorb at all, the material may not be genuine suede, so test a small spot first. Mink Oil after dyeing restores moisture and the suede's natural luster.

What you'll need

What's the difference between Angelus Dye and Angelus Paint?

Dye soaks into the material and blends with its original color, so red dye on white turns pink. Paint sits on top and covers completely, so use paint for a full color change.

Can I mix dyes to make new colors?

Leather dyes can be mixed, but the shade can be hard to predict, so test on a scrap first. We don't recommend mixing suede dyes, because their pigments may not blend well.

What you'll need

Do you have a white dye?

No. Angelus doesn't make a white dye, and dye can't lighten a material. For white, use Angelus Paint.

What's the best way to apply dye?

A wool dauber works for most projects, and one comes in every 3 oz. box. You can also use a paintbrush, though the dye will ruin it, or an airbrush for smooth, even coverage. Dip-dyeing gives the most consistent all-over color.

What you'll need

How do I seal dye and keep it from bleeding?

On smooth leather, buff on Neutral Shoe Wax or Neutral Lustre Cream. On suede and nubuck, use Mink Oil or Water & Stain Repellent.

If it keeps bleeding, the leather may be over-saturated with dye. Contact us and we'll help you correct it.

What you'll need

What is Neutral Dye?

Neutral Dye is a clear dye you mix with a color to make it lighter. A little softens the shade, and more makes a much paler version.

There's a Neutral Leather Dye for smooth leather and a Neutral Suede Dye for suede.

What you'll need

Do you make an oil-based dye?

No. Angelus dyes are alcohol-based. They soak into leather well and work for everything from shoes to furniture.

Can I use dye on patent leather?

Yes, but results vary. The clear coating on patent leather makes the dye look much darker, and the dye mixes with the existing color. Test a hidden spot first.

What you'll need

Can dye lighten leather?

No. Dye only adds color, so it always darkens or shifts the shade. Red on white turns pink, and any dark patches stay darker.

For grey, mix Jet Black Leather Dye with Neutral Leather Dye. More Neutral makes a lighter grey.

What you'll need

Why is my dye bleeding or rubbing off?

Extra dye dried on the surface instead of soaking in. Once it's fully dry, buff it with a clean cloth. For stubborn residue, wipe lightly with a cloth dampened with alcohol or Angelus Spot Remover.

Buffing after every dye job locks in the color and cuts down on transfer.

What you'll need

Can I dilute dye with alcohol?

Leather dye, regular or Low VOC, can be diluted with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. Only dilute suede dye with Neutral Suede Dye, since alcohol can dry out suede.

What you'll need

Why did the dye leave a bronze or shiny look?

Too much dye was left on the surface. Wipe off the excess with rubbing alcohol and reapply in light, even coats if needed.

Mink Oil or a wax in a similar color evens out the finish afterward.

What you'll need

Rit Dye

Dip-dyeing fabric and shoes with Rit.

How do I prep canvas for Rit Dye?

Soak the canvas in cold water with mild soap, rinse it well, and dye it while it's still damp.

Check the care label first. Waxed or waterproof canvas, and anything marked cold water only or dry clean only, doesn't take dye well.

What you'll need

Can I use Rit Dye on leather?

You can, by dip-dyeing in hot water around 140°F, but it gives a soft, vintage look. For deeper, longer-lasting color on leather, use Angelus Leather Dye.

  1. Clean the leather with Leather Preparer & Deglazer to remove the finish and oils.
  2. Heat the water to about 140°F.
  3. Dip-dye the leather.
  4. Condition it afterward, since the salt in the dye bath dries leather out.

What you'll need

How do I dye synthetic or rubber shoes with Rit?

Use Rit DyeMore in a plastic container of water heated to 170°F. Regular Rit won't take on synthetics.

  1. Heat 3 gallons of water to 170°F. Don't let it boil.
  2. Pour it into a plastic container and add Rit DyeMore, shaken well.
  3. Put both shoes in together and stir for 10 minutes, or dye them one at a time in fresh baths.
  4. If any glue loosens, clamp it until it dries.

Test first. Adhesives and some materials can react to the heat.

What you'll need

How do I use Rit DyeMore on fabric?

Use the stovetop method: water at 180°F, half a bottle of DyeMore per pound of fabric (double it for polyester), and stir often for 10 to 30 minutes.

  1. Prewash the fabric to remove finishes.
  2. Heat 3 gallons of water to 180°F and add half a bottle of DyeMore per pound of fabric, or a full bottle for polyester.
  3. Stir well before adding the fabric.
  4. Submerge the fabric and stir often for 10 to 30 minutes, until you reach the color you want.
  5. Rinse out the extra dye and let it dry.

DyeMore is made for synthetics like polyester and nylon.

What you'll need

Should I use Angelus Dye or Rit Dye?

Use Angelus Dye for leather, suede, and sneaker soles, applied directly. Use Rit for dip-dyeing fabric like canvas, denim, cotton, and nylon.

Angelus Dye is highly pigmented and long-lasting. Rit is water-based with a lighter pigment load, so it spreads evenly in a dye bath for jackets, sheets, and fabric shoes.

What you'll need

How do I use Rit All-Purpose Dye?

Rit All-Purpose dyes natural fibers like cotton, wool, and silk, plus nylon and rayon, in a dye bath. Add salt for cotton, rayon, linen, and ramie, or vinegar for nylon, silk, and wool, and finish with Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative to lock in the color.

It won't dye polyester or acrylic. For those, use Rit DyeMore. Follow the directions on the bottle for water temperature and timing.

What you'll need

What do I need to dye with Rit All-Purpose Dye?

Rit All-Purpose Dye, a plastic container or stainless steel sink, a measuring cup, and a large metal spoon. Add salt or vinegar depending on the fabric, a little dish soap, and Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative.

  • Salt helps cotton, rayon, ramie, and linen absorb color.
  • Vinegar helps nylon, silk, and wool absorb color.
  • Dish soap helps the color go on evenly without streaks.
  • ColorStay Dye Fixative locks in color and reduces bleeding.

What you'll need

Cleaners

Cleaning, protecting, and restoring shoes and leather.

How do I clean my shoes with Angelus cleaners?

Pick the cleaner for the job, brush off loose dirt, scrub gently in circles, wipe off the excess, and let the shoes air-dry. Then condition and protect them.

  1. Take out the laces. Soak them separately if they need it.
  2. Brush off loose dirt with a shoe cleaning brush.
  3. Apply the cleaner: pour a little Easy Cleaner into a bowl, or pump Foam-Tex straight onto the brush.
  4. Scrub gently in small circles, using a softer brush on suede and nubuck.
  5. Wipe off the excess with a damp cloth.
  6. Let the shoes air-dry fully, away from heat and direct sun.
  7. Condition leather with Lustre Cream or Mink Oil, and refresh suede with the Nubuck & Suede Kit or Mink Oil.
  8. Spray with Water & Stain Repellent to protect them.

Which cleaner to use:

  • Easy Cleaner for everyday dirt and light stains on leather, suede, nubuck, canvas, vinyl, and more.
  • Foam-Tex for quick touch-ups and on-the-go stains.
  • All Purpose Foam Cleaner for heavy oil and grease, like on work boots. Use it as a last resort.

What you'll need

How do I clean suede?

Brush off loose dirt, cover the suede with Angelus Foam-Tex, scrub gently in circles, and blot it with a microfiber towel. Let it air-dry for at least 24 hours, then brush the nap back up.

  1. Brush away loose dirt and debris.
  2. Pump Foam-Tex onto the suede, covering most of the surface.
  3. Scrub gently in circles. Work quickly so the foam lifts the dirt before it evaporates.
  4. Blot up the extra product and moisture with a microfiber towel.
  5. Air-dry for at least 24 hours.
  6. Once dry, brush back and forth to bring back the texture. For stiff spots, use the Nubuck & Suede Kit.
  7. Optional: spray Mink Oil to condition, protect, and refresh the color.

Suede can't be spot-cleaned. Clean the whole shoe or item so it dries to an even color.

What you'll need

How do I clean leather?

Wipe off dust, clean with Angelus Easy Cleaner on a damp cloth or brush using small circles, and let it air-dry. Then condition with Lustre Cream or Leather Balm to keep it soft.

  1. Wipe away dust with a soft, dry cloth.
  2. Put Easy Cleaner on a damp cloth or brush and wipe in small circles.
  3. Let it air-dry, away from direct sun and heat.
  4. Condition with Lustre Cream or Leather Balm to restore moisture and shine.

For ink, dab gently with Angelus Spot Remover on a cotton swab. Older stains may not come out completely.

What you'll need

What's your strongest cleaner?

Angelus All Purpose Foam Cleaner. It's made for stubborn dirt and buildup on soles, midsoles, and other hard-to-clean spots.

It's too harsh for suede and other delicate materials. Use Easy Cleaner or the Foam-Tex Kit on those.

What you'll need

How do I use All Purpose Foam Cleaner?

Spray it on dirty soles or midsoles, let the foam soak in, scrub with a stiff brush to loosen the grime, and wipe it off with a clean rag.

Use it on soles and midsoles only. It's too harsh for uppers and delicate materials like suede.

What you'll need

Should I wipe off the cleaner?

Yes. Wipe it off after scrubbing to remove leftover soap along with the dirt.

What you'll need

Should I test the cleaner first?

Yes. Try it on a small hidden spot, let it dry, and check for color bleeding, fading, or texture changes before cleaning the whole item. This matters most on suede, whose dye can bleed.

How do I fix yellowed soles?

Use Angelus Sole Bright. Brush a light to medium coat onto the yellowed areas, wrap them in clear plastic, and set the shoes in the sun: about 1 hour for midsoles, or 4 to 6 hours for clear, icy soles. Badly yellowed soles may need several rounds.

  1. Brush a light to medium coat of Sole Bright onto the yellowed areas.
  2. Wrap them in clear plastic so it doesn't evaporate.
  3. Set the shoes in the sun: about 1 hour for midsoles, 4 to 6 hours for clear soles.
  4. Repeat if needed.

Soles yellow naturally over time from exposure to air and light.

Tips:

  • Keep the shoes level so the product doesn't run.
  • Keep it off anything that isn't rubber. It can damage other materials.
  • In hot weather, put a sealed bag of ice inside the shoes to keep the soles from separating.

What you'll need

How do I use the Nubuck & Suede Kit?

Rub the eraser over dirt, scuffs, or stains in small circles with light pressure, then use the brush to clear the debris and restore the texture.

Brush in one direction for a smooth look, or back and forth to lift the nap.

What you'll need

How do I waterproof my shoes or clothes?

Spray 2 light, even coats of Angelus Water & Stain Repellent, letting each coat dry fully before you wear them.

It forms an invisible barrier that keeps liquids and stains from soaking in.

What you'll need

How long does Water & Stain Repellent last?

With normal wear, about 1 to 2 weeks. Reapply sooner if your shoes see rain, dirt, or daily outdoor wear.

What you'll need

Can I use Spot Remover on suede or nubuck?

No. Spot Remover can lift the suede's dye along with the stain and leave an uneven patch. Use the Nubuck & Suede Kit, and treat the whole shoe so the color stays even.

Mink Oil Aerosol conditions suede, adds water repellency, and can deepen and lock in the color.

What you'll need

Can I use Reptile Cleaner on regular leather?

Yes. Angelus Reptile & Exotic Skin Cleaner & Conditioner is mild enough for exotics and works well on regular leather coats, couches, and bags without drying them out.

What you'll need

How do I clean my paint brushes?

Use soap and water for everyday cleaning, and Angelus Brush Cleaner for stubborn, dried-on paint. Let the brushes air-dry so the bristles keep their shape.

Rinse brushes right after you paint. Don't let acrylic dry in the bristles.

What you'll need

Can I use the cleaner on patent leather?

Yes, gently. Test a small area first and avoid heavy scrubbing, since harsh cleaning can dull the gloss. Buff with a soft cloth afterward to bring back the shine.

What you'll need

Glitterlites

Working with Angelus Glitterlites.

How do I use Angelus Glitterlites?

Stir the bottle by hand to bring the glitter back up, paint a similar-colored base coat, then brush on thin coats of Glitterlites with a filbert brush, letting each coat dry.

  1. Stir by hand to mix settled glitter back into the paint.
  2. Paint a base coat in a similar color to help coverage and reduce glitter fallout.
  3. Apply Glitterlites in thin coats with a filbert brush for even glitter.
  4. Let each coat dry before the next.

What you'll need

Do I need a finisher over Glitterlites?

No. Glitterlites are made to stay flexible without flaking, and a finisher can dull the sparkle.

Can I thin Glitterlites with 2-Thin?

You can, but it spreads the glitter thinner and reduces the sparkle. Don't airbrush Glitterlites, because the glitter can clog and damage the airbrush. A filbert brush gives the most even coverage.

What you'll need

Can Glitterlites colors be mixed?

We don't recommend it. The glitter is suspended in the paint and doesn't blend evenly, so mixed shades come out uneven and hard to predict.

Can I mix Angelus Paint with Glitterlites?

Yes. A small amount of paint shifts the color and keeps some sparkle, and too much paint covers the glitter. Test small mixes first.

Can I use Glitterlites on canvas shoes?

Yes. Paint a base coat in a similar color first, then apply Glitterlites on top. Canvas flexes a lot, so the glitter may crease over time, and the matching base keeps the shoe looking consistent.

Laces

Sizing and finding replacement laces.

What size laces should I buy?

Count your eyelets: 3 eyelets takes 30 inch laces, 4 takes 36, 5 to 6 takes 45, 6 to 7 takes 54, 7 to 8 takes 63, and 8 to 9 takes 72. Measuring your old laces is the most accurate way.

If you're between two sizes, go with the shorter one. Laces stretch slightly, so lengths can vary by 1 to 2 inches, especially at 54 inches and longer.

Do you carry laces for Sorel boots?

We don't carry Sorel-branded laces, but we stock many styles and lengths that may match. Send our team a photo of your current laces and we'll recommend the closest one.

Do you carry original laces from shoe brands?

No. We don't sell factory or original laces from any shoe brand. We do carry quality replacement laces, including Jordan-style laces made to match popular Jordan models.

Orders

Placing, changing, and paying for orders.

How can I check my order status?

When your order ships, we email you a tracking link so you can follow it to your door. You can also look up your order anytime on our Order Status page.

No tracking email? Check your spam or promotions folder.

Do you accept prepaid gift cards?

No. We accept major credit and debit cards linked to a valid billing address, and prepaid gift cards don't meet that requirement.

What does "Processing" mean?

We've received your order and it's in line to be packed. We process orders Monday through Friday, and processing can take longer during busy holiday seasons.

If you need it out the door faster, add Rush Processing at checkout.

Can you ship to an address other than my billing address?

Yes. For larger orders we may contact you to verify the details first, and if we can't verify them, we may need to ship to the billing address.

Why am I getting a fraud error at checkout?

Usually because the billing address you entered doesn't match the one on file with your card. If your billing and shipping addresses are different, choose the option to enter a separate billing address at checkout.

Do you take phone orders?

No. All orders are placed online, but if you run into trouble at checkout, call us and we'll help you through it.

Call (562) 325-8096, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Pacific.

How do I cancel my order?

Call us during business hours, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Pacific, before your order ships. You can also email us, but an order that's already processing, especially with Rush Processing, may ship before we can cancel it.

Can I change my order after placing it?

If it hasn't been processed or shipped yet, we may be able to. Contact us as soon as possible. We can't change kits after an order is placed, so to change a kit we'll cancel the order and you can place a new one.

My order didn't go through, but I was charged. Why?

That's a temporary hold from your bank, usually because the billing address or ZIP code didn't match your card. We don't receive the money, and the hold typically drops off within a few hours to a few days.

If it doesn't clear, contact your bank.

What if something in my order is wrong or missing?

Email us at info@angelusdirect.com with your order number as soon as you notice. Once we check it against our records, we'll fix it, and we can correct mistakes within 30 days of purchase.

Why are you asking me to verify my order?

Our fraud system sometimes holds an order until we confirm it's really you, usually after a billing mismatch, an unusual shipping address, or several failed payment attempts. We may ask for a photo of your driver's license and card with the sensitive numbers covered.

It protects you and us from fraudulent charges. Thanks for bearing with us.

Do you have bigger sizes?

If you need a larger size than the site lists, contact us. We'll do our best to get it for you, whether it's for a big project or professional use.

My discount code didn't work. What should I do?

Contact our team with the email you used at checkout, the code you tried, and your order number if you placed the order, and we'll help sort it out. For current deals, check the banner at the top of our site.

What payment methods do you accept?

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover credit and debit cards, plus Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Shop Pay. We don't accept PayPal, checks, money orders, or cash.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Shop Pay Installments lets you split your purchase into payments over time. Choose it at checkout.

Shipping

Delivery times, tracking, and what we can ship where.

How long will my order take to arrive?

It depends on the shipping method you pick at checkout. In the U.S., Ground Advantage takes about 2 to 7 business days and Priority about 1 to 3, plus our processing time.

Estimated transit times:

  • Ground Advantage: 2 to 7 business days in the U.S.
  • USPS First-Class: 2 to 5 business days in the U.S.
  • Priority: 1 to 3 business days, by USPS Priority Mail or FedEx 2-Day depending on the package
  • USPS First-Class International: 10 to 35 business days, depending on the country

These are estimates and don't include processing time. Orders placed after 12:00 PM Pacific, on weekends, or on holidays start processing the next business day.

What is Rush Processing?

Add Rush Processing at checkout and an order placed before 12:00 PM Pacific, Monday to Friday, ships the same business day. Orders after noon, on weekends, or on holidays ship the next business day.

Rush Processing speeds up packing, not transit, so delivery time still depends on the shipping method. It may not apply to orders over $400 or outside the U.S., it can be paused during very busy periods, and it's non-refundable once the order ships.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes. U.S. orders of $49 or more ship free with standard shipping. It's added at checkout automatically, with no code needed.

Will I need to sign for my package?

Some deliveries may need a signature. Make sure you or someone you trust can receive the package.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, to many countries. Enter your country at checkout to see if we ship there. We can't send aerosols, flammable liquids, or anything larger than 8 oz. (pints, quarts, gallons) outside the U.S.

Before you order internationally:

  • You pay any customs fees, taxes, or import duties on delivery. We'll contact you to confirm before shipping.
  • If a package is refused or comes back undeliverable, we refund it minus shipping, duties, taxes, and customs fees. Allow up to 30 days for that refund.
  • Shipping fees are non-refundable.
  • Every international package includes a commercial invoice at full retail value. Discounts don't show on it.
  • We don't ship to mail-forwarding services.

My package was supposed to arrive today but didn't. What should I do?

Give it an extra 1 to 2 business days. Weather and busy USPS hubs can delay tracking updates. If it still hasn't arrived after a few days, contact us so we can check the shipping address.

Tracking says delivered, but I don't have my package. What now?

Packages often show up 2 to 4 days after they're marked delivered, so give it a little time and check with neighbors. If it doesn't turn up, your local post office can help locate it.

Once a carrier marks a package delivered, we can't take responsibility for it. If you shipped with USPS Priority, you can file a lost or stolen package claim directly with USPS.

What do "Unfulfilled" and "Fulfilled" mean?

Unfulfilled means your order is still being processed and hasn't shipped. Fulfilled means it's packed and shipped, and we've emailed you the tracking link.

Can't find the tracking email? Check your spam or promotions folder.

Which items have shipping restrictions?

Because of flammability and postal rules, some items only ship within the lower 48 U.S. states, and regular Angelus Leather Dye can't ship to California. Low VOC Leather Dye ships to California and internationally.

Where do you ship from?

Every order ships from our warehouse in Santa Fe Springs, California.

How do I change my shipping address after ordering?

Contact our team as soon as possible. We'll update the address on your order, and you'll get a confirmation email when it ships.

Returns, exchanges, and damaged orders.

What is your return policy?

  1. Email info@angelusdirect.com or start a chat within 30 days of delivery with your order number and what you'd like to return.
  2. Wait for our return instructions. Packages sent back without approval can't be accepted.
  3. Ship it back in its original packaging. Return shipping is paid by you.
  4. We refund your original payment method 1 to 3 business days after the return arrives and we've checked it.

Do you offer exchanges?

We don't do direct exchanges. Return the unused item for a refund and place a new order for the one you want, or ask us about store credit toward your next project.

What if my order arrives damaged or leaking?

That's always on us. Email info@angelusdirect.com or start a chat with your order number and a few photos of the product and packaging, and we'll send a replacement at no cost. You don't need to send anything back.

If the box itself is visibly damaged, you can also report it to the carrier, which speeds up their claim process.

About

Who we are and how to reach us.

What is Angelus Direct?

Angelus Direct is the official online store of Angelus, the leather paint, dye, and shoe care brand founded in Los Angeles in 1907. It's run by the Angelos family, who make the products in their own plant in Santa Fe Springs, California.

We carry the full Angelus line, from leather paint and dye to cleaners and conditioners, for artists, customizers, cobblers, and sneakerheads.

Is Angelus Direct the same company as Angelus Brand?

Yes. Angelus Direct is the official online store of Angelus Brand, and both are run by the Angelos family. Paul G. Angelos is the owner, and his grandson Tyler Angelos is CEO.

How did Angelus start?

Paul T. Angelos, a Greek immigrant, founded Angelus in Los Angeles in 1907. He started at a shoeshine stand, began making his own polish, and built the company that his family still runs five generations later.

After decades in Culver City, Angelus moved to a larger plant in Santa Fe Springs, California, where its paint, dye, and polish are made today. As sneaker culture grew, customizers made Angelus leather paint their go-to, and Angelus Direct brought the full line online.
