Modernizing a nearly 120-year family legacy into an 8-figure e-commerce leader in sneaker customization, leather care, and art supplies, serving customers worldwide.
About Tyler Angelos
Tyler Angelos is the CEO of Angelus Brand, a fifth-generation family business with a nearly 120-year legacy. As the grandson of longtime owner Paul Angelos, Tyler has spent his career modernizing and expanding that legacy across e-commerce, product innovation, and creative brand building.
Across Angelus Direct, Lace Lab, and Pecard, he has transformed niche ideas into industry-leading brands in sneaker customization, leather care, and accessories, serving customers worldwide with trusted, high-quality products. What began in 1907 as a shoe-polish company is today the go-to name for artists, customizers, sneakerheads, leatherworkers, and cobblers worldwide. The #AngelusPaint hashtag alone has surpassed 165 million views on TikTok, and the Angelus Direct Instagram community has grown past 460,000 followers.
Tyler combines hands-on expertise in U.S. manufacturing, logistics, and product development with a digital-first approach to growth. His team of 35 full-time employees operates out of the same Santa Fe Springs, California, facility where the company manufactures, warehouses, and ships its products.
Tradition Meets Modern Execution
When Tyler took the family business online in 2013, the Angelus website was outdated, and the product was scattered across the market with no direct-to-consumer channel. He rebuilt the site from scratch, handling design, product photography, and content himself. Within three months of launch, Angelus Direct ranked on the first page of Google for its core search terms, and the family business doubled its sales as the online store reached new customers and wholesale accounts worldwide.
That early investment in SEO and organic content reshaped how customers discovered the brand. Today, Angelus Direct is the primary destination for custom footwear and leather care products, and Lace Lab has extended the brand into premium shoelaces and accessories.
Tyler's path to the business wasn't conventional. Before joining the family business full-time, he graduated from the Rio Hondo Fire Academy, became a certified EMT and reserve firefighter, and worked nights for seven years. A career-ending shoulder injury redirected his focus entirely to Angelus, a pivot that turned into a generational opportunity.

Tyler's Approach
“We don't try to make the sale. We try to make them happy, like they're a part of Team Angelus.”
Three traits define his leadership: creative, confident, adaptable. He favors efficiency over ego, choosing steady, sustainable, high-margin growth over chasing top-line revenue numbers. He partners with competitors rather than fighting them, with brand collaborations including Barbasol and Rit Dye. Roughly 70-80% of the company's marketing is organic, built on real customer relationships rather than paid retargeting.
