Angelus Flat 4-Coat is a flat clear coat for painted sneakers and leather that dries with almost no shine at all. It's urethane-based, so it adds heavy scuff resistance on top of your custom work.

Choose a 1 oz. or 4 oz. bottle. It's made in the USA.

How to use it

Let your Angelus Paint dry completely.
Brush or airbrush it on.
Let each coat dry before adding another.

Brushing tips

Use a fine, soft brush like our Angelus brushes. Heavy or cheap brushes leave strokes.
Level it out as you go with a hair dryer or heat gun.
Don't keep brushing once it starts to dry, or it can turn hazy.

Airbrushing tips

Spray a full, heavy coat without letting it drip.
Don't spray too light. A thin mist won't build a strong layer that adheres.

Common questions

Should I use 4-Coat or Acrylic Finisher?

Use 4-Coat when you want heavy scuff resistance. Angelus Paint is sturdy on its own, but 4-Coat adds an extra layer of protection. If you just want to change the sheen, use Angelus Acrylic Finisher.

Should I brush or airbrush 4-Coat?

Both work. Airbrushing gives the smoothest result, especially on glossier sheens. If you brush, use a fine Angelus brush and level it with a hair dryer or heat gun.

Why does my 4-Coat look hazy?

It's usually from brushing while it's drying. Brush it on, level it with heat, then leave it alone to dry.

Why isn't my 4-Coat sticking?

The coat is probably too light. Spray a full, heavy coat without dripping so it builds a strong layer on top.

Is Flat flatter than Matte?

Yes. Flat 4-Coat has the least shine of any 4-Coat, with a dull finish that goes beyond matte.

The product is quite unbelievable! I bought the flat and it does as said, makes whatever medium you have and makes it shine free! Keep in mind it may have a bit of a chalky / velvety feel after it dries but not so much on the look. Keep that in mind for whatever project you have. I am going to try that matte next but I highly recommend it!

My journey back into sneaker customization

Amazing products. I wish I knew about this brand 25 years ago when I first tried to paint on leather sneakers and paint cracked off with cheap acrylics. This is by far the only way to customize anything the right way so that it lasts.

Factory Finish

This product is exactly what I needed to take the shine out of my custom sneakers and make it look lole they were made in a factory. The paint design was camouflage and I wanted them to have the flat look. They kinda looked like suede afterwards. I love the product and will continue to use it.

Paints are great!

Not sure what is going on here

This is my first time with flat, but I have matte and gloss. Maybe a bad batch? Maybe heat and humidity with shipping? Bottle looks fine- milky white but left a “scum like finish” over a turquoise mix x2. I’d be wary. I shook it very well for a minute plus on the 2nd item and used very thin amounts- same scum texture

Works just like the description says.

It definitely does what it is supposed to. I decided to go with a satin finish on my bag. The small part I tested went on smooth and alittle goes a very long way. I definitely suggest a soft brush. I couldn't find the brushes I bought for this so I used a soft makeup brush I never used. Worked perfectly!

Good or not

The flat 4 coat is pretty good. It goes on pretty good and pretty easy to work with. I would use a very light coat on the 1st one and stretch it out as much as you can. Then do your 2nd coat regular.

This product is great! I love how it gave an aged look to the custom job I did for a friend.

My only "complaint" is that it doesn't spread as long as paint does so you have to move quickly if your painting on. Might be my question to invest in an airbrush :)

I want to customize some Nikes. If I deglaze and then paint, is it recommended that I use a product such as flat 4 coat to seal and preserve my work? If so, will it modify the color of the paint underneath?Also, do you have a finishing option for scratch resistant/preservation in spray form?

Angelus Direct

The 4-Coat is not meant to be a urethane-based finisher. The FLAT will not have any reflection, so yes, this will change the finished look and color. You would want to use maybe SATIN instead.
