Hello! I’m Rebecca, and I live in Italy. I love drawing, painting, woodworking, sculpting, knitting, sewing, leather-crafting and whatever involves creativity and handiwork and being busy, since I was little (always with “dirty” hands). I recently decided to start a page to share what I make. It can be a customized hoodie, or a tooled leather dog collar, or colorful bag, and Angelus Brand is the perfect friend in this!!

4-Step Guide to Diluting Angelus Leather Dye for Custom Shades
Step 1: Choose Your Base Color
Pick your desired Angelus Leather Dye color. This will be your starting point for customization. Angelus offers a wide range of vibrant options, from classic black and brown to bold red, blue, and more.

Step 2: Mix with Neutral Leather Dye for Dilution
To create a custom dilution, pour equal parts of your chosen leather dye and Angelus Neutral Leather Dye into a mixing cup. A 1:1 ratio (50% dilution) is great for toning down intensity without losing color character. For even lighter results, increase the ratio of neutral dye.

Step 3: Test on a Scrap Piece of Leather
Before applying your custom mix to your final project, always test it on a similar piece of leather. This helps you preview how the diluted dye will absorb and dry, and allows you to make adjustments to the mix if needed.
🔗 Shop Leather Scraps for Testing

Step 4: Apply with Wool Dauber or Brush
Use a Wool Dauber or high-quality Angelus paint brush to apply the dye evenly across the leather. For full-strength application, you'll get bold, saturated color. For diluted dye, you'll see a lighter, more transparent finish — perfect for vintage looks or layering techniques.

Creator Questions
I'm based in Italy.
When I started working with leather I wanted the best to work with and searching on internet Angelus Brand was always at the top , I didn’t esitate to get a try and it was the best choice.
I use Angelus products to primarily to hand-dye, paint, take care and customize leather items , but also fabric ones.
I love all my Angelus products and honestly there are still some I have and want to try, however my favorites are Angelus Leather Dyes, pure, diluted, mixed, they are wonderful! And 4-Coat Urethane Clear Coats are simply amazing! Strong, flexible, clear. My first choice is Satin 4-Coat, it’s like an invisible titanium barrier (but the gloss one is amazing too). Paints are the best, like a second skin to leather, all the colors are beautiful, but I’m gonna pick the Neon Parisian Pink, add it to white, or petal pink , or lilac, or yellow…it will give a beautiful bright color shade. Working with veg tan leather, Neatsfoot Oil is always on my shelf.
Try, try, and try, experiment, and have fun. You’ll find your process. What may seem a big mistake at the beginning, could be a wonderful piece of art at the end.
