News — Shoe Customizing Workshop

For this years Art Basel Angelus Direct partnered with aWall Mural Projects on a series of over 40 murals benefiting two Miami schools. As part of their sponsorship Angelus Direct is providing the paint and materials for these murals, which will be painted by over forty artists from around the world.

With support from Angelus Direct aWall Murals has it’s biggest mural count and artist lineup yet, with over forty murals by over forty artists. By working to enrich local Miami schools the program hopes to teach students that anything is possible and to follow your dreams.

Ten Hundred will be the artist painting the mural for Angelus Paints, a first for him. “As I have progressed through my art career I have become incredibly familiar with my go-to art supplies, so working with this unconventional art supply on such a large scale should be a very interesting challenge. Sometimes using brand new tools can lead to interesting new avenues of creativity and take you down unexplored paths to creating something new. Only time will tell what kind of challenges I will need to overcome to make a beautiful mural for this school in Miami,” says Ten Hundred about the mural he will be creating for the project.

Paul Laurence Dunbar K-8 Elementary School will be the site of most of the murals and host a shoe painting workshop as well. The murals are a part of a series Angelus Direct is sponsoring as an effort to help revitalize and recondition Miami schools in need. aWall Mural Projects is a response to the elimination of many school art programs at public schools, including ones like Dunbar, where they are no longer able to offer arts and music electives past fifth grade.

The shoe painting workshop was led by an aWall Mural Projects artist. Angelus Direct donated paints and products, along with 40 pairs of shoes. 

Arvida Middle School, which has a magnet arts program, will be the site of 16 additional murals.

aWall Mural Projects was founded by a small group of artists passionate about sharing their work to inspire and create with others. They transform public schools from K-12 into centers of creative collaboration and change, while immersing the students in the creative process through workshops led by aWall Mural Projects artists.
