I am trying to get better at color art and part of that is knowing how your colors look and act on the painting/dyeing surface.
You can see the difference between results when swatch is prewashed or not. I then split the squares L/R (vertical split) for deglazing solution. I put dye in the boxes & paint along the edges and (messily) in the text. To finish it off, I trialed different finish/conditioning as a stripe over the top of each dye box.
FYI- deglazed strips are on the right of each box. “finishes” top to bottom are High Gloss, Flat, Satin (all 4-coat), leather cream, then leather balm over the lowest bottom strip of dye. I also tried mink ball on the first T of test, and left the adjacent E blank as control. r2c4 test square is also undyed/unpainted but got the pre/post treatment of its row/column.
The “water and stain repellent” disappears completely with no color change to anything I tested (so far).
I have now referenced my swatches several times to match existing colors (valchetta paint exactly matches the swatch leather) while I work up the nerve to go from repair to putting new designs on shoes & other items.
These are great to have for testing!
Great way to see all your colors in one place. Good quality leather!
Great way to determine the correct shade of dye to use
Actually better than i thought it’d be, Definitely presents color well
