Rit White-Wash Fabric Whitener is a chlorine-free whitener and brightener for dingy white shoelaces, socks, and other white fabrics. It removes yellowing and discoloration and helps lift stains like grass, grease, and lipstick.

How to use it on the stovetop
- Fill a stainless-steel pot with enough water for the fabric to move freely.
- Heat the water to just below boiling, about 200°F, and keep it there.
- Pour in White-Wash just above the water line. Use 1 packet for small to medium loads, or 2 for large loads. Use good ventilation and avoid breathing in the powder.
- Add 1 tablespoon of laundry detergent and stir.
- Add the fabric and stir steadily for 10 to 20 minutes.
- Drain, then rinse in warm water and gradually cooler water while wearing rubber gloves.
- Dry as usual.
How to use it in a washing machine
- Set the hottest water temperature and a wash cycle of at least 30 minutes.
- Start the cycle and pour in White-Wash just above the water line, using 1 packet for small to medium loads or 2 for large loads.
- Add detergent as usual.
- When agitation starts, add the unfolded fabric without crowding.
- Dry as usual when the cycle ends.
Common questions
Can I whiten white shoelaces with this?
Yes. It's a good way to bring dingy white laces back to bright white.
