Ready to create your own paint pen for plastic? Here’s a simple step-by-step guide that walks you through the process:

1. Prep the Surface: Before you start, you must prep the plastic surface. Use Angelus leather preparer and deglazer to clean the surface and remove dirt, oil, or wax. This will ensure your paint adheres properly.

2. Mix the Paint: You will need Angelus paint, 2-Thin paint thinner, and 2-Hard paint film hardener. Keep in mind, though, that the mixing ratio depends on the plastic you’re working with. For most plastics, a 1:1:1 ratio of paint, 2-Thin, and 2-Hard can work. However, if you’re working with very rigid plastics, use a ratio of 1:1:3 for paint, 2-Thin, and 2-Hard, and adjust the 2-Thin to reach a smooth, pumpable consistency. 

3. Fill the Marker: Once your mixture is ready, you can use eye droppers to fill your empty paint markers. This helps prevent spills, making the process clean and easy.

4. Paint and Apply: Once your marker is filled, prime the nib by pumping it on scrap paper until the paint starts to flow. Apply the paint to your plastic surface in thin, even coats. Multiple thin coats are preferable to a single thick coat.

5. Seal for Protection: For extra durability, you can apply a finisher after the paint has fully dried. Our 4-coat and acrylic finisher products are excellent for adding a protective layer.
