Why Choose Our DIY Fabric Markers?

Stop searching for pre-filled markers that never have the color you need.

Our system lets you create a custom palette with your favorite Angelus paint. It's the perfect way to get professional, long-lasting results on many fabrics.

  • Empty, Refillable Design: Instead of settling for off-the-shelf pens, you get empty markers that you fill with Angelus acrylic paint. This provides a controlled flow, enhanced saturation, and the flexibility to select your own shades for each project.

  • Custom Control: By mixing paint 1:1 with 2 Thin, you adjust the consistency so that it glides smoothly through the nib. Each reversible replacement tip offers flexibility, featuring a chisel edge for bold lines and a rounded end for detailed work.

  • Soft Fabric Friendly: For garments or softer fabrics, adding 2 Soft keeps the material flexible while locking in permanent, water-resistant color. Heat treatment is required to finish the process, but once set, designs remain vibrant even after repeated washes.

  • Water-Based & Non-Toxic: Angelus acrylic paint is made in the USA and crafted to be non-toxic. It is flexible, safe to use in your creative space, and backed by five generations of family craftsmanship.

  • Fade-Resistant and Washable: Customizations on clothing, bags, or shoes stay strong after washes and regular use. Colors remain bright, lines stay sharp, and your designs continue to look fresh over time.

Fabric Markers: Product Specifications

Angelus fabric markers combine flexibility with precision to meet your creative needs.

Whether you’re detailing denim or canvas, these markers offer features designed for smooth, controlled, and vibrant application on fabric.

  • Sizes & Tips: Choose from 3 mm, 5 mm and 10mm sizes. Each empty paint marker has a reversible tip with a chisel side for bold lines and shapes and a rounded side for detailed work.

  • Flow Control: The pump valve system ensures ink flows evenly, allowing your writing, drawing, and outlining to appear clean on most fabrics. They deliver smooth results with standard colors, while heavier pigments such as metallics, neons, or Glitterlites are best applied with brushes for consistent coverage.

  • Paint Mix: Blend Angelus fabric paint with 2‑Thin at a 1:1 ratio for smooth consistency. For garments, substitute 2-Soft and finish with heat treatment to lock in softness and permanence.

  • Durability: Once set, your designs become water-resistant and can handle regular wash cycles. Colors stay bright and bold on clothing, bags, and shoes.

  • Maintenance: Extend the life of your tools with replacement tips. This simple swap keeps your lines crisp without the need to buy a brand-new marker.

How to Create & Use Fabric Markers

It’s easy to start building your own fabric markers. With the right tools and a few simple steps, you’ll be creating bold designs in no time.

  1. Gather everything you need

  2. Mix the colors. Use a dropper to add equal parts of paint and 2-Thin or 2-Soft (approximately a 1:1 ratio). Stir or mix gently.

  3. Fill the marker. Use the dropper to gently fill your empty body. Keep the pump tip seated firmly and test the flow before starting the pump.

  4. Prep your fabric surface. Make sure your material is clean and dry. Smooth surface equals better ink lines. Sketch outlines freehand or use a stencil.

  5. Apply your design. Use the chisel tip for bold work, the rounded tip for writing or detailed coloring. Build in layers if needed for rich, vivid color.

  6. Dry, then set. Let the paint dry fully. If you used 2‑Soft, heat-set for 3 to 5 minutes at around 300°F using a heat gun to ensure washability and softness.

  7. Reuse responsibly. Markers aren’t made for swapping colors. Stick to one hue per marker for the best fill and feel.

Care & Washing Instructions

You created something awesome, now let’s keep it that way.

  • Wait 24 to 72 hours after painting to wash, allowing the paint to cure fully.

  • Turn garments inside out before washing to protect designs.

  • Use cold or gentle machine wash cycles. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners.

  • Air dry or tumble dry on low heat to preserve softness and color.

Designs stay vibrant after washing. If the fabric feels a bit stiff, wearing it softens the texture over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What markers work best on fabric?

Angelus suggests using empty paint markers filled with acrylic paint mixed 1:1 with 2‑Thin for smooth flow and coverage. Available in 3 mm, 5 mm, and 10 mm, these markers produce opaque lines suitable for a variety of fabrics.

How to make a marker permanent on fabric?

To make your designs permanent, mix paint 1:1 with 2-Soft Fabric Medium and heat-set after it has dried. This process locks in color and gives you wash-durable results.

Do fabric markers wash off in the wash?

When you mix paint with 2‑Soft and heat-set it correctly, the design will stay in place even after washing. If you skip heat setting, the artwork may wear out more quickly.
