Angelus Metallic Silver is a technical acrylic coating developed for projects that require a high-luster finish without sacrificing the structural integrity of the leather. While typical metallic paints often dry brittle, this water-based formula is engineered to remain pliable, allowing the silver pigment to move in sync with the natural expansion and contraction of footwear. This flexibility ensures that the metallic finish remains intact across high-flex points like the toe box, preventing the cracking or delamination that occurs with inferior products.

A successful application begins with a thorough deglazing to strip the factory finish, providing a clean surface for the metallic resin to anchor to. Building the color through multiple thin, translucent layers allows the silver flakes to settle evenly, resulting in a smooth, factory-quality appearance free of brush marks. Once the 24-hour curing cycle is complete, the paint creates a waterproof, industrial-strength shield that protects against moisture, salt, and abrasive scuffing.

Formula: Water-based metallic acrylic polymer optimized for permanent adhesion and high-flex movement.

Application: Compatible with detail brushes and sponges; for airbrushing, a 0.5mm nozzle or thinning with 2-Thin is recommended.

Coverage: High-density metallic silver loading provides excellent light reflection and opacity on both light and dark leather.

Durability: Formulated to resist oxidation, water damage, and fading even under heavy daily use.

Sizes: Available in 1 oz, 4 oz, Pint, and Quart bottles to accommodate everything from detail work to bulk production.

PAINTING LEATHER

1. Prepare leather surfaces using 3-5 passes of Angelus Leather Preparer & Deglazer using our applicators, cotton balls, or a rag. (acetone can also be used).

2. Wait for leather to dry a few minutes. When dry, wipe with microfiber cloth to remove any remaining dust particles.

3. Apply Angelus Paint with paint brush, airbrush (at least 0.35mm nozzle) or sponge. Apply 3-5 coats or until desired coverage has been reached. Less coats can be used for line work and detail work.

Make sure to leave to dry 15-30 minutes between layers.

4. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours before allowing paint to bend or flex. Be careful of flying lint or debris getting on the shoe to avoid imperfections. Longer curing time ensures better durability.

5. To add extra protection or customize the finish, apply Angelus 4-Coat Clear Coat in Flat, Satin, Glossy, or Matte. Use 1-2 layers for the best results. 1-2 layers on top.

PAINTING CANVAS/DENIM - SHOES, CLOTHING, AND MORE

1. Prep by cleaning the surface with a cleaning product like our Angelus Easy Cleaner Kit. It is necessary to get out all the oils and dirt that may be sitting in or on the canvas. 

2. Make sure there is adequate dry time and that you wipe off and get all the cleaner out.

3. (Optional) If you want to make the paint soak in and not be as rubbery textured on canvas we suggest using our product 2-Soft mixed with our paint. You can paint Angelus paint directly on canvas without it but it just will feel more like a screen print then part of the shoe. When using 2-Soft you must heat set.

4. Paint with 3-5 light layers of Angelus Paint. Make sure to leave to dry 15-30 minutes between layers.

5. Leave to dry. 

(Optional) No additional protection is really needed as the paint has soaked into the canvas. If you want to change the sheen to a matte or glossy look instead we do suggest our 4-Coat Clear Coat.

Prep for Leather
