Angelus Metallic Silver Paint is a metallic acrylic leather paint in a bright metallic silver with a reflective sheen, for customizing and restoring sneakers, boots, bags, and other leather goods. It's water-based, stays flexible once dry, and covers in 3 to 5 thin coats on a properly prepped surface.

Choose 1 oz., 4 oz., pint, or quart. We've made Angelus products in Los Angeles since 1907.

Works on

  • Leather shoes, bags, and furniture
  • Canvas and denim (add Angelus 2-Soft for a softer feel)
  • Wood
  • Plastic and metal, mixed with Angelus 2-Hard

Before and after you paint

On leather, take off the factory finish first with 3 to 5 passes of Angelus Leather Preparer & Deglazer. When you're done, seal it with Angelus 4-Coat for protection and the sheen you want.

Pro-grade paint, made easy for first-timers

  • Angelus is the go-to paint for first-time customizers, and it's the same professional-grade paint fashion, footwear, and entertainment companies use to make costumes, exclusive pieces, and finished products. You get commercial-grade quality at everyday prices.
  • Thin coats go on smooth, and the color builds with each one.
  • Want to warm up first? Try a few strokes on the Angelus Leather Test Swatch, real leather with a smooth side and a suede side.
  • You can always adjust. Dried paint comes off with Deglazer, or you can simply paint over it, so you can keep going until you love it.
  • Free step-by-step tutorials on our YouTube channel and FAQs walk you through it. Not sure about a color? Check the Color Chart. Unused products can be returned within 30 days.

Common questions

Can I mix Metallic Silver with other Angelus colors?

Yes. All Angelus paints mix together, so you can lighten, darken, or shift Metallic Silver to match your project.

Can you airbrush Angelus Metallic Silver Paint?

Yes. Use an airbrush with at least a 0.35mm nozzle, and thin the paint with Angelus 2-Thin if you need it to flow more easily.

How much paint do I need?

A 1 oz. bottle usually covers 2 to 3 pairs of shoes completely. For a leather chair, plan on about a pint to a quart, and for a full couch, a quart or two.

PAINTING LEATHER

1. Prepare leather surfaces using 3-5 passes of Angelus Leather Preparer & Deglazer using our applicators, cotton balls, or a rag. (acetone can also be used).

2. Wait for leather to dry a few minutes. When dry, wipe with microfiber cloth to remove any remaining dust particles.

3. Apply Angelus Paint with paint brush, airbrush (at least 0.35mm nozzle) or sponge. Apply 3-5 coats or until desired coverage has been reached. Less coats can be used for line work and detail work.

Make sure to leave to dry 15-30 minutes between layers.

4. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours before allowing paint to bend or flex. Be careful of flying lint or debris getting on the shoe to avoid imperfections. Longer curing time ensures better durability.

5. To add extra protection or customize the finish, apply Angelus 4-Coat Clear Coat in Flat, Satin, Glossy, or Matte. Use 1-2 layers for the best results. 1-2 layers on top.

PAINTING CANVAS/DENIM - SHOES, CLOTHING, AND MORE

1. Prep by cleaning the surface with a cleaning product like our Angelus Easy Cleaner Kit. It is necessary to get out all the oils and dirt that may be sitting in or on the canvas.

2. Make sure there is adequate dry time and that you wipe off and get all the cleaner out.

3. (Optional) If you want to make the paint soak in and not be as rubbery textured on canvas we suggest using our product 2-Soft mixed with our paint. You can paint Angelus paint directly on canvas without it but it just will feel more like a screen print then part of the shoe. When using 2-Soft you must heat set.

4. Paint with 3-5 light layers of Angelus Paint. Make sure to leave to dry 15-30 minutes between layers.

5. Leave to dry.

(Optional) No additional protection is really needed as the paint has soaked into the canvas. If you want to change the sheen to a matte or glossy look instead we do suggest our 4-Coat Clear Coat.

Good to know

Paint questions, answered

Quick answers from our counter staff.

Can you paint leather with Angelus paint?

Yes. Angelus paint is a water-based acrylic made for leather shoes, bags and furniture. Take off the factory finish first with 3 to 5 passes of Leather Preparer & Deglazer, then paint in thin coats.

How many coats does it take, and how long does it dry?

3 to 5 thin coats give full coverage, and fewer work for line and detail work. Let each coat dry 15 to 30 minutes, then wait at least 24 hours before the paint bends or flexes.

How far does a 1 oz. bottle go?

About 2 to 3 pairs of shoes per 1 oz. bottle for a full repaint. Detail work uses much less.

Does it work on canvas, denim and fabric?

Yes. Clean the fabric first so no oils or dirt are left. Mix in 2-Soft to keep painted fabric soft and more laundrable, and heat set it when you use 2-Soft.

Do I need to seal it?

It's optional, and it helps. A layer or two of 4-Coat adds protection and sets the sheen: Flat, Matte, Satin or High Gloss.

What if I make a mistake?

You can always adjust. Dried paint comes off with Deglazer, or you can simply paint over it.

Great product as always

I really like using this silver. It can go on with one thin coat for a glistening effect or several thin layers for a true "silver" look.

Hi there, when applying to fabric, you'll definitely need to apply more pigments because the fabric saturates it almost immediately. Many like to use a base of a white, let it dry, then apply the art onto that. This helps the pigment from saturating into the fabric too fast. Hope this helps!

Color isn’t as described

The color isn’t silver. It’s too white. It’s more like white metallic.

You may just need more layers! The metallic paints are more translucent than our standard line. If you have any questions, please reach out to us! info@angelusdirect.com
