Jagger Rodammer @Kicksbyjagger
Hi, my name is Jagger Rodammer, and I’m from West Michigan! Six years ago during COVID, my sister painted a pair of shoes, which inspired me to start customizing for myself! Around the same time, I fell in love with anime and its art style, so combining shoes, art, and anime just made sense! Outside of art, I love beach volleyball, reading in the winter, celebrating Christmas starting in October, and spending time with my family of 11, who are each one of my very best friends. Most importantly, I love my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and I owe every opportunity and success I’ve had to Him!

If you could give one piece of advice to aspiring artists, what would it be?
Find YOUR style by always experimenting and trying new things with your art! Even if it feels a little crazy, do it. That’s how you’ll discover what you truly love to create and, more importantly, how YOU want to create it. Having a style that’s uniquely yours will only add value to your work! And never be afraid to reach out to other artists, the worst that can happen is they don’t answer. I’ve received so much help from artists in this community who ended up becoming good friends of mine! And now I hope to give back in the same way they gave to me. So if you ever have a question, feel free to hit me up!
How to Paint on Pokémon Binders:
A Step-By-Step Guide
1Prep the Binder Surface
Proper surface preparation is the most critical step to ensure paint adherence and prevent peeling or lifting along the spine and edges.
Light Sanding: Lightly scuff the binder cover with fine grit sandpaper to remove the factory topcoat and create microscopic teeth for the paint to grip.
Deglaze: Dampen a microfiber towel with Angelus Leather Preparer & Deglazer and wipe down the entire outer surface to strip away factory finishes, oils, and silicone coatings.
Dry: Allow the binder surface to fully dry for 5–10 minutes before applying paint.

2Character Outlining and Colors
Airbrushing provides a smooth seamless color blend ideal for energy glows, skies, or galaxy backgrounds on Pokémon artwork.
Mix Paint & Additive: Combine Angelus Acrylic Leather Paint with Angelus 2-Thin in a 4:1 ratio. This thins the paint viscosity so it passes through the airbrush evenly without clogging while maintaining color coverage.
Apply Background Layers: Spray even passes over the binder surface. Build coverage gradually in 2–3 light layers rather than spraying one heavy coat to prevent pooling or runs. Allow 10–15 minutes of dry time between coats.

3Creating the Sunset Gradient
Hand brushing allows for precision and control when painting character outlines, shading, and sharp elements.
Paint Straight from the Bottle: Use Angelus Paint with fine detail brushes for crisp outlines and opaque color fills.
Work in Thin Coats: Apply 2–3 thin layers rather than a single thick application. Let each layer dry completely before painting over it to avoid brush strokes or texture buildup.

4Adding Environmental Details
Trading card binders handle frequent opening, and closing. A durable topcoat protects the artwork from scuffs, water, and thumb friction.
Choose Your Finisher: Use Angelus 4-Coat Finisher in your preferred sheen for maximum durability and water resistance.
Application: Stir gently (do not shake, as shaking introduces air bubbles). Apply 2–3 thin coats using a brush within 10–15 minutes of each other.
Cure Time: Allow the binder to air cure undisturbed for 24 to 48 hours before inserting card pages or using it. Avoid exposure to water or moisture during the first 48 hours.
